Lot of stuff to talk about,
0: These types of videos are the most successful consistently on our channel, they are my least favorite content to make. I think that is evidenced in how generally combative my tone is throughout the video. Typically the videos I do enjoy making perform the worst. I am open to suggestions but please leave the generic "follow your heart" stuff out, feelings wont pay bills. Not trying to be rude but its genuinely unhelpful but of course I appreciate the sentiment.

I feel like it's perfectly fine where it is. Its a gimick weapon, explicitly designed to be reminiscent of halos magnum, and it can happily stay like that. Esspecially as i seem to remember the rock not using your grenade energy, just ammo, which means its reasonably good for a grenade spam build in PvE.

Crazy how everyone thought this gun was this op game breaking weapon, literally every streamer said it was op and needed to be nerfed. If you look at any comment section of when it first released 90% of the comments were about how op it is. And now look, hardly ever used and forgotten about for the most part. It's a very fun gimmicky special weapon but that's about it, it's completely balanced.

What doesn't help this gun is the fact that Scavenger (as well as finder) mods for sidearm do not exist for people who did not have them unlocked before the primary ammo changes. If you are new you'll find that even in the collections tab where if you don't own an item it is greyed out, the mods just aren't there, they don't exist. We are back at the situation of special finisher where it went missing for like half a year

It’s a decent 3-tap, but to make it perfect it needs to flinch slightly more to keep up and have slightly reduced flinch getting hit while ads-ing.

Worst part?
If you never obtained sidearm scavenger finder from previous seasons, you can no longer obtain it.
Good luck using the weapon when every brick gives you 1-2 ammo.

I love the weapon, only thing it needs is more generous ammo economy. Either more from bricks or make the catalyst refund some ammo somehow.

People who were out the gate saying it needs nerfs made me laugh. It’s a low zoom scout that uses special ammo. In an PvP content with stakes no one is going to take Forerunner over a OHK weapon, and that’s ok. It is what it should be, fun and nostalgic.

IMO the biggest thing that gives Forerunner a downside is DMT simply existing, and being in the same slot. I love Forerunner don't get me wrong, 503 kills on catalyst kill tracker with it and I haven't used it in a week, but playing on PC and seeing MnK players ignore it's existence because DMT does everything it does but typically better (minus TTK, but DMT is DMT) really hurts the health of other fun options. DMT is also just a primary that does the same job as a niche special weapon. Kinda ass tbh.

It’s a special weapon hand cannon with a scope, it’s honestly super fun to use and something I main since it came out but it’s basically just a hyped up 140/120 hand cannon in PVP

Not every exotic should be used by the masses. Exotics are about being unique

something that also hinders it is that for some like me because the sidearm scavenger is unobtanible if you didnt get it befofe the infinite primary change

I felt the same way about Jotunn when it first came out, I knew it wasn't going to last long much like Forerunner. Much like Forerunner its an incredibly powerful meme weapon in the right hands. However, given the style of play required and the current meta weapons, its hard to make it work, especially in any kind of competitive play. I'm very good with the weapon at higher tiers but considering the energy I have to put in to make it work, I tend to just default to "Main Ingredient" at a certain point.

I do know people believe its complete easy mode and at certain levels it is but whenever I ask people, especially clanmates "why don't you use it?" you end up hearing the same complaints "I die or trade too much when using it or it tracks for other people but it never tracks for me." Many don't understand that there is a bit of a learning curve to mastering the weapon if you want to survive in higher tier matches. Most people at higher tiers can easily bait your shots, snipe or slide shotgun you before you even get a chance to charge the weapon. Even in Iron Banner you rarely see it. I played Iron Banner all week for hours and in all that time I found 5 Jotunn users. I saw plenty of shotguns, DMTs, all the popular handcannons, pulse rifles Fusion rifles and SMGs, yet only 5 Jotunns. Hell I saw 2 Sky Burners Oaths thats only 3 less than Jotunn. 🤣

What TDT said about Forerunner totally applies to Jotunn. "You can't really buff the weapon because people who are good with it become insanely good and you can't nerf it because it doesn't really need to be nerfed, Its already not being used much."

Edit: Wrote this bfore finishing the video, I didn't realize he brings up the Jotunn.🤣🤣🤣

The Magnum is literally the only reason I play destiny 2, and it feels good with the Sentinel class. It was made for us Halo players.

tbh i think that forerunner is a perfect example of what an exotic weapon should be: its absolutely insane, but you need to actually put in the time to learn and perfect it as well as make it the centerpiece of your build, instead of just having it put in to fill a slot or because its outstanding on its own. it may fall off hard and get seen less and less often, but the people who stick with it will be absolutely terrifying to go against with it

Bit of a nitpick, but you were looking at competitive PvP usage on destinytracker. The quickplay PvP usage of Forerunner is currently at 0.9%, which is above things like Adored, both Fatebringers, the non-adept Palindrome, and even Duality.

I got, and finished, my Forerunner's caty in a single night last week grinding iron banner. Threw it on with a kill clip shayura's and felt like I could challenge just about anything, with the exception of snipers at longer ranges. Has honestly become one of my favorite weapon combos for PvP and I'd never even touched shayura's until making this build.

The instant-kill nature of Shotguns, Snipers, and Fusion Rifles continues to crowd out the entirety of the Special ammo system. If you have limited ammo and enemies can survive being hit by you, even once, you have no place in PvP.

Like you said in the vid, the best build is definitely double sidearm with tricksleeves. I guess one good redeeming quality is the fact that sidearms are cheap to invest into. For instance, surprise attack is way cheaper than high energy fire, the targeting mods are also cheap. I can see it having more potential if there comes more options for pvp build crafting mod wise. Until then, it’s about the same as running 2x primaries, maybe even worse.

… k, there was NOOOO reason that invader clip had to go THAT hard hahaha wicked good, love the vids!
