I'm not normally one to get very emotionally invested in stories from ancient history, as much as I enjoy them, but Peroz III's story really got me. Hearing his last words got me a little bit misty-eyed. It might be naive of me, but this seems like a rather wholesome tale of friendship between cultures, at least until the last part.

So, Phocas ruined both Romans and Sassanids.

Ironically enough the Sassanids had no one to blame for this but themselves.

A few decades prior to the big arab expansions they had destroyed one of their client states, the arab Lachmids, who had functioned as a reliable bastion against any potential attacks from the arabian peninsula or the South-west in general.

This caused a power-vacuum that the new direct persian administration was unable to fill, which gave the newly united arab tribes the perfect opening to strike.

As an Iranian, I have been desperately waiting for videos about post-Sasanid Persian dynasties and their reconquest attempts. Thanks a lot for the video!!

In 1955, a tomb was found in China, which belongs to general Su Liang's wife. The tombstone says that she was dead in 874 and she was a Sassanian. She was Su Liang's wife and also his daughter, and they still believed in Zoroastrianism. That is 166 years after the death of Narseih

I didn't know the Persian Sassanians directly contacted the Tang Chinese, interesting stories of the Silk Road... Like the contacts between Rome and China, or the Greeks of Bactria and China

Interesting. I knew the Sassanid family escaped to China, but I didn't know the specifics of it. This was pretty interesting and a great way for a bad day to get better.

As a Chinese, I'm ashamed of the fact that I haven't heard of this at all. Thank you Kings and Generals!

Man, Do you Want to Start a War? :)
By the way, thank you for your great videos. I look forward to your videos on the Iranian dynasties too.
Also, I have to mention YouTube is blocked in Iran and most Iranians like me use VPN to circumvent the blocking. That's why you see few IPs from Iran.

The exiled Sassanid dynasty in China is one of my favorite historical stories. I always think of them as the exiled Targaryens in far away Essos, desiring a return to their kingdom and reconquest of their previous empire - but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
