In this video I reviewed the following colored pencil brands: Prisma Premier;Faber-Castell Polychromes; Caran d'Ache Luminance; Derwent Lightfast; Holbein; Evazar London; Kalour; Brutfuner; and Uni Mitsubishi. I also gave advice on the best brands for beginner colorists/artists.

It took me a year of studying tutorials to feel that I could color in a way that made me feel happy with my work. I didn't know what pencils to use and got a cheap set at first. They were awful. So I went on line to see who was doing lovely work. She used polychomos by Faber Castell. Then I got her coloring books. She became my teacher. Later on I got the Prismacolors and 2 sets by Derwent. Recently I got the Holbeins. I have a few inexpensive sets. But when I use them I usually have to add in a few pencils from my artist quality pencil sets. My favorite pencils remain my polychomos. I really related to this video. Your work is beautiful. I like that you are showing people that coloring and drawing is a process. By the way, my husband gave me good advice too, and says that we should move into a larger house to make room for all my art supplies.

Wax based aren't always soft, oil aren't always hard. People get this impression because the popular artist quality makes it seem this way. It has nothing to do with how firm the cores are.

Wax based put down more opaque and intense pigments, but can produce a shiny film called Wax bloom. Oil based are more translucent and need lots of layers, but do not have this bloom. Wax based can also be more bold and vibrant for this reason. That's it.

Doesn't matter what brand of pencils you used, but your drawings are exquisite. Even when you first started, and it was nice of your husband to compliment you on your progress. Great video

You are truly a very gifted artist. Your work is beautiful. I have no color knowledge and cannot even create a color Palette. Your palettes were all very pretty. Thank you for sharing your wonderful artwork with us. It was so enjoyable to look at each one. I'm very glad that you had so many different brands of pencils to show us. Some were unfamiliar to me. I am in the United States. Are some of these not available here? Many of us can only afford budget pencils, and the problem with them is that you cannot replace a color when you run out of it without rebuying the whole set. Thank you so much for showing us your lovely artwork! As to your husband's comment about how many pencils you have, no matter what the hobby, husbands always express astonishment over the number of supplies that we feel we need to have. 😯

This was a really good wide-ranging comparison of many kinds of pencils. Thank you. That was a lot of work for you to do. It really helped me get a better idea of how the pencils work, what to expect. And I appreciated you showing us your art, how you have improved so much. It really encouraged me that I can improve as well. Great tutorial/review.

Listening to you and seeing your work makes me realize that I have another five years before I can produce work like yours. I just started with pencils this year but so far it seems that I’m more successful in the collection part of this hobby. Great video, thank you for sharing.

haha thank you, I thought I was the only 'weird' person, I tend to take a sniff of my bunch of Polychromos when I feel unhappy. It makes me feel calm. You did beautiful pictures.

Regarding the quality: you sure can achieve nice results with cheaper pencils. The difference however is the lightfastness. If the company doesn't provide informations on that as well as ingredients, personally I would not use that. Especially when you start gifting or selling your work, you want it to be lightfast.

I heard you say you have learned to use no pressure with coloring… This is a good time to go back to your Luminance. You will achieve more layers with light pressure then you did before.
Also agree that it’s easier to learn blending and stuff with a good brand. So a small set of good pencils is a great beginning to learn.

Hi, I have some and don't like them. They color like crayons. A friend bought the same set and it had different colors. She loves hers. I have the 180 set. The numbers wear off quickly. They did not come sharpened like they said. Your coloring is beautiful. TFS

I must disagree with Prismacolours and layering. They might be good for blending but I tried layering and the buildup was awful, after a while it began to feel tacky and sticky. Maybe it’s just me but I’m on the fence about Prismacolours.

Did you sharpen all of your most recent Prismacolours?

You have done some lovely drawings. I keep my lightfast and luminance together as the lumys are the brights and the lightfast are natural colours and they fill the gaps that the set lacks. I love my prismas but if i want to do a Mariola Budek hair i love my polychromos so yes different pencils for different subjects.
Thank you for this video. I loved your bookmarks they explode out of the cardstock. Much love & *Virtual hugs* from Australia xxx ❤❤❤
