The Best Ikea Kallax Hack with Helpful Cardstock Storage

Today I'm focusing specifically on cardstock storage using the Ikea Kallax units. I've used a variety of Kallax units to create a custom storage space. You'll hear me refer to them as  4x4, 1x4 and 2x2, simply meaning 4 cubes across and 4 down, etc. Don't miss all the shopping links I've included below for the products in this video. I've also linked the Stamp N Storage cardstock/paper inserts that fit perfectly in the Ikea Kallax unit.

My craft room has a large window that faces west so I was careful to avoid the direct sunlight. We situated the Ikea Kallax unit so it faces north to avoid any sun damage to the cardstock. I live in Florida and the afternoon sun is always warm so I close the blinds to help keep the room cool, especially in the summer months. Plan your layout carefully using the Ikea Planning Tools. The Planning Tools allows you to choose the products you like and situate them to get a great 3D visual layout.

That paper storage is great but those inserts are $100! That's insane!

Wow, exactly what I needed to see! Have my 4 x 4 kallax installed with an extra just like you did, bolted to the wall and supported for all that weight of the paper. My unit it on a platform, which looks so pretty. Your wall is beautiful 😅😊 the additional inserts from ikea have my attention! Thank you!

Incredibly helpful. Seeing that your units are sturdy and flush to the wall and don't seem to be bowing anywhere gives me relief. I need one shelving units to store all my stamps and dies and another to store my papers. It seems it can store that weight very well without difficulty and safely.

I love, love this. Some guy here on YT shows how to do these dividers, route the side so they can slip in.the Kallax unit... way too much work. This is so much easier and looks so much nicer.

If your video had been made in 2015 I could have kept all my scrapbook papers when we downsized! Now, I only have basic cardstock and buy designer papers only as needed.
Thank you, thank you.

Hi Lisa, thank you for this idea. I printed off the All Time Stampin Up color order. My OCD really loves the cardstock order and storage.

$85 for one cube insert?? Love the idea, but that’s an outrageous price! Surely they can’t be that hard to build. It’s beautiful though! Great ideas on the scrap paper too!

I think this is a beautiful way to store papers!

I enjoy scrapbooking, journaling and using planners. I organize in a similar way, but recently I learned about “organizing styles” that really helped me appreciate everyone’s unique styles! Over the years I just bought a little at a time, just to have a basic form of organization. Now we’re finally ready to save for what works best for me.

I learned from Clutterbug- YouTube that there are important questions to recognize that help one discover one’s organization style. Two questions are:
1. Do you prefer to see everything you have in an appealing way, or do you prefer to have it hidden in a drawer or behind a door? I’m a drawer person.
2. Are you a Macro organizer or Micro-organizer? An example of this with silverware 🍴for a Macro organizer is to put all of it (spoons, forks and knives) all in one space. A person that prefers to Micro- organization will prefer an organizer to separate each. Everyone started with Macro-organization as a child, but “grew into” their preferred style. It also may change from space to space. A Macro-organizer is more willing to look through a zone for what they need. A Micro-organizer feels more peaceful having organized zones broken down to more specific organization containers. They’re more willing to take the time ahead of time to organize everything and then find everything very easily. They can get to what they recant to do more quickly in the long run. They put “time and effort in first and enjoy easily finding everything later. It’s worth the time, costs and effort to them. I’m a micro-organizer.

I love how beautiful the display is❣️ I ended up over the years buying lots of IKEA cubes. I have binders for each category with LOTS of sheet protectors! I’m also visual. When I can see what I have, that helps me use it, not want more and know what needs to go on the shopping 🛍 list. So I have a rainbow 🌈 if binders for solid papers. Then I have binders by category for over 25 topics. I keep in different sized sheet protectors and mini bags usually used for jewelry everything flat from card stock of many kinds, stickers, die cuts, frames, and definitely more. I’m enjoying the rewards now! My next goal is to get matching binders. I’ve slowly gathered what we could afford and find, so things are put away in binders, but the binders don’t match. I prefer using Avery Clearview 2” D-ring white binders. I love that I can be as creative as I want, when I want, but our family albums have a “enough of a unifying look 👀 that it’s appealing to the eye”. I also highly value “little fingers” that might be sticky or dirty being fine to browse through albums and supplies (to an extent). That’s why I choose binders. 2” D ring works well with “not too heavy” or “bulky”. It’s “just right”, in my opinion.

Anyways, thanks for letting me share my unique way of doing things too. I love your organization and how beautiful it is. Those dividers work very well too. That was very helpful of your husband to make the pvc inserts for smaller papers ❣️ Thanks for your input and ideas!

Thanks Lisa, very helpful. Just now getting around to attempting to get my papers better organized, and this will really help. Thanks for all of your tips and tricks. Looks like I'll need to pick up some of the PVC pipe and get hubby involved. Thanks again! Really enjoy all of your videos.
