A "hack" is supposed to be an easy, quick, practical trick.
That's not a hack. That's a project.

This is not a hack. This is a makeover.
Using something for its original purpose is not a hack.

I love the design! But here are some details to keep in mind:
1) Ikea sells chipboard furniture, not solid wood, so it was easy to drill holes in it.
2) By drilling holes in the base directly into the chipboard, over time and with the weight of the things, the leg will sink inwards, leaving you with a limp piece of furniture. To avoid this, a solid board that does not break easily (like wood) should be used and the legs should be screwed to it. The Ikea furniture can then be placed on top of it.
3) As it is chipboard, when you spray it enough to clean it, it will swell or bubble underneath. You can do it in wood, but not in chipboard.
4) I advise you to place 2 more legs in the middle of the piece of furniture to balance the weight and so that it doesn't break in the middle over time.

Edit:
5) In addition, acrylic paint should be used. Paints with a heavy water or oil base will penetrate directly into the porous surface of the chipboard and make the board look uneven and lumpy.

This isn't a hack. This is an entire reconstruction!

I wouldn’t call it an IKEA hack so much as an ikea project

I’m sorry but what/where is the ‘hack’ here?
This is a legit thrift DIY furniture refurbishment, but nothing on here seems to be a ‘hack’, or was it supposed to be the ‘turn the bookshelf on its side and it can be turned into a long low cabinet?’
This is a whole-ass project.

‘Hacks’ were meant to be interesting tricks/tips to make a task easier by using something in a different way than its intended purpose (breaking our preconceived understanding of how to use every day items) - I get that it’s become a joke after 5mincrafts etc stopped making them useful/easy but can we not just use it to mean “hey here’s a cool diy project I undertook”

No hate, solid peice. Couple of tips that might help with your next project.
A quick sanding to smooth plasticy surfaces will achieve the same (or possibly better) result for less money than the slick-stick.
Using longer more robust hinges will reduce door sag over time. (Think kitchen cabinet hinges).
If you are sticking adornments to a surface, always do it before a surface finish is applied. This is because you want to glue materials to eachother and not glue them to the paintwork. This also means you dont have to be stingy with your glue, for fear of ruining your paintwork. 😉
Step adornments away from the edge by a few millimetres. This will stop them from being chipped and knocked off over time.
Use jigs as much as possible. Jigs are templates or brackets used to hold material in position to ensure consistent results. Usually made of scrap material that would be thrown in the bin anyone, and are often as simple as two pieces of wood nailed at a right angle. They make life so much easier and improve your quality so much for little effort or money. (Also makes batch manufacturing easier should you wish to sell some items).
Again nice design. Hope these tips are useful. Have a wonderful day. 🎉

Thanks for the slick stick product suggestion.. I use oil primer because it works too, but I’m gonna try this stuff next time.

Normally I don't like mass produced items, because it usually means at least 50k other people have the exact same thing
Transforming and adding your own take on an item, suddenly becomes a unique and personal one of a kind end product.. Great job ❤

Nice. Over$100 in products and labor to enhance a $30 Ikea bookshelf

And then… and THEN…. Then… and then…could not be me. You deserve gold for all this work. 👏🏻

Did you really just screw door hinges into cardboard? 😂
For those who don't know - Kallax units are so lightweight cause top, bottom and sides are not even plywood, they're hollow filled with crimped cardboard in honeycomb pattern. Same for LACK tables. Don't do what she did. The door will eventually fall off.

You really need to support the whole frame when you put a kallax on legs. Your design as is will sink and bend in no time and all your nice work will be for nothing. Look it up online to see what happened to other designs and how to prevent it

I get so sick of seeing repainting of old wood furniture. You 🫵 darling, made an elegant piece of storage furniture from IKEA look like the Mona Lisa of furniture❣️👏♥️💯 Love this piece. It’s unique as you!

Ikea Expedit are a DREAM for record collectors..Kalak is the alternative and almost as good 🖤

The hardware may have a hard time staying on because the wood on the kallax is only paper thin

Not a hack. It is a transformation.

A hack is to break something. This is the opposite of a hack. This is a beautiful transformation.
