Life on the Acute Pain Service.

Regional anesthesia is a major advancement in the field of Anesthesiology for how a patient can undergo surgery. For patients who are too sick to tolerate general anesthesia, a regional nerve block or neuraxial technique could really help them get through a procedure.

Pros about the rotation:
- you get to do ultrasound guided procedures all day
- it’s a break from the usual routine of the OR schedule
- you work collaboratively with your co-residents to complete the work for the day

Cons:
- Propofol deficiency

Favorite block:
- Popliteal (takes some finesse 🤌🏾)

Tips of the trade:
- be prepared before you put gloves on (applies to knowledge & equipment)
- download ASRA COAG free app for hold/restart times for anticoagulation meds
- bolus dose for starting intralipid in LAST is 1.5 ml/kg
