"Number 2: you hate people in general"
I wonder how many people actually feel like that. 😅

Thumbs down false. And glibly mentions fresh economy with absolute zero info on what it means and how it's relevant to a new user. It's not. At all. There is incentive to make a secondary character to playtest in the seasonal test mode and enjoy the challenges offered. I enjoy it myself. But never pretend as if new users should start there with their first/main character. The best option for beginners is indeed Standard. Which is the full main game with content that has been implemented only after being properly tested in their public beta test mode. Challenge League is the public beta test mode for the latest expansion content being released for the main gam (standard). Nobody should be starting their first character in the test mode. Start in Standard. There's Ruthless now which is even much better. The game tries to make Ruthless seem like some hard mode. It's not. Like at all. It's just a much more refined, curated, cleaner, and way more cohesively developed/balanced mode than non-Ruthless. It actually does omit a portion of content available in Standard. Because of being muuch more careful with Ruthless design. So more may get implemented depending on what works best. Ruthless is possibly the most truest form of what the game design going for. Which perhaps got a messy over the years for Standard. It's very fortunate that they took all their progress, and created the most solid form of the game with Ruthless. So that's the only setting I play now.

Therefore, obviously if you're new, start on Standard. CL (public beta test mode) can be fun as well so it's worth it to make a secondary character for the season. Of course, always Ruthless. I suggest avoid non-ruthless which is extremely convoluted unless you really want to check out all the additional content. Some users enjoy it. I avoid it entirely.
