REAL DOCTOR reacts to THIS IS GOING TO HURT by Adam Kay - Is It Still TRUE?

Adam Kay worked as a doctor over a decade ago, in his bestselling book he tells the tales of the turmoil that junior doctors go through in their training - but how accurate is this book to life as a doctor today?

In this video (that I recorded several months ago and just never got round to uploading) I'm going to read a few excerpts from the start of This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay and comparing them to real life as a junior doctor in 2021.

What I don't understand is, all doctors go through turbulent junior years when you make mistakes and are lumbered with guilt, you get humiliated by your consultant, and sometimes you are stabbed in the back by your colleagues. Yet when junior doctors become senior, they abuse junior doctors in exactly the same way.

Nice to hear your view as a Doctor on this book, I'm just reading it, so far I've laughed out loud about 9 or 10 times and shed a tear once. Not many books can do that!

I just finished this book 10 days ago and I wanted to ask you questions about what is still true on YouTube comments, but then I thought I should not, you are a busy man.
But YOU READ MY MIND!

I used to work in care and had to make a diary of all the weird stuff that was happening in the home like personal information being left out, residents swearing at me and insulting daily and a couple of safeguarding issues. I was a trainee and my manger left after I was there two weeks leaving me to run an entire department of the home at age 19

Its accurate and I was only in the IT side of the NHS. Depends what hospital you're at but I was at one where they'd given away all rights to the parking at the hospital to a 3rd party company who charges EVERYONE to park there. So his part about the hospital parking was accurate
