This is the one you've all been asking for. Scrubs.
Ever since I started my medical training in 2007 all of my friends have been telling me that I MUST watch the TV show Scrubs but for some reason, I was always a little hesitant to start it. Maybe because I looked at medicine as a serious field, it didn't make sense to watch a comedy about it.

Well, now I am taking your advice and watching the first episode ever of the medical drama. Although I think this show is less of a medical drama is more of a medical comedy or satire. I can see why many medical professionals enjoy this show because working many hours in the hospital system can leave you feeling frustrated at times.

Now, as far as my opinion goes I have to be honest. This show is not as appealing to me as it is for most of my friends. I feel like they take easy shots at medicine and exaggerate a lot for the sake of humor (especially Zach Braff ) Not sure why, but the humor didn't land for me that often. I also think I would probably need to watch a few more episodes as the pilot is rarely the best one. Also, Zach Braff irritates me just a little a bit in his acting.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode of Real Doctor Watches Scrubs / Real Doctor Reacts to Scrubs. If you want me to continue making this medical drama review series please like the video and leave me a comment on which tv drama show or episode you'd like for me to review next. Love you all!

Doctor is the last thing I want to be, I cannot bear the thought of shouldering such a heavy responsibility

Much respect for all of the doctors out there! 👍

"Generally the nurses are better at doing the procedures because they do then so much more often..."

😘 I adore when doctors point out that nurses are integral to the healthcare team. We're so much more than pills and bedpans. Thanks for the shout out, doc!

Scrubs was never claimed to be the most medically accurate show. It was claimed to be the most accurate representation of what new doctors go through. That was the whole focus of the show. Not the medicine, but the situations that newly minted doctors have to deal with and the effect it has on them emotionally.

2:30 There is a good reason for using a beeper: It works on a much longer wavelength than cellphones, which means they always work, even in elevators or underground parking garages.

I love when doctors are honest, and admit that nurses can often times be better at procedures such as IV sticks. He’s very humble.

You know you're old when Scrubs is considered an old show that the current generation is not familiar with.

I'm 4 years late, but I hope you took the time to finish the series. You're knocking it for some of its darkness, but that is exactly what makes Scrubs so spectacular.

It's one of those extremely rare shows that can have you dying laughing and crying only moments later. Very, very, very, very, very few shows in history have ever been able to balance drama and comedy on a level as accurate, and powerful as scrubs has.

It's bar none, the single most underrated and underappreciated show of all time

I feel like scrubs is one of those shows that most people think “oh it’s just a comedy” but there is so much emotional impact to each character throughout the show.

The episode where Dr Cox breaks down is one of my favourites

The thing about Scrubs is that it starts in a relatively dark place, because it starts when JD and his friends are extremely anxious about their new job, and over time all of the characters in the series show a lot of growth. The main driver of the show is the idea that the experiences they go through working at this hospital really help them to change and become better people.

Dood, you gotta watch the rest of the episodes. It may be a comedy, but the character development and comedy get WAY better... and the dark stuff gets darker. It really was a good show, and worthy of all its praise.

I have much respect for doctors and the strength, patience, and knowledge that they have. I've always said I wouldn't become a doctor but this channel is kind of making me think twice about it.

Scrubs aged very well!
The storytelling is excellent and they pick up very mature and intense topics to tell.
Very little "laughtracks" and good camera work.
One of my all time favorites!

You have to remember the pilot is almost 20 years old now, so a lot of outdated tropes exist in the show.

My former family Doctor (Now retired) was one of the most straight-laced, serious-minded people I have ever known. I convinced him to watch Scrubs, and he absolutely LOVED it. Said it was actually pretty accurate, and very relatable to him. We would always spend a few minutes talking about the latest episode at my appointments after that.

“Too dark.” Heh, heh, heh, oh you sweet summer child. Somebody trained after the residency work hour restrictions. Dr Cox is just all of our Ids unleashed. Everything you wish you could say but can’t. “Help me help you, help me help you, help me help you.” Honestly, though, it’s the patient death rate on this show that’s the most realistic. Yes, we do everything we can to extend life, but in the end, we will lose and the patient will die at some point. This show does an excellent job of exploring this cold, but at the same time oddly comforting reality. Our job really is to try to improve the quality of the time we are gifted with. First do no harm.

"It's regular strength Tylenol...get her to open her mouth take a handful and throw it at her, whatever sticks that's the correct dosage"
Dr. Mike: I'm going to be honest and say I've done stuff like this

I took that too literally

You've probably heard this a hundred times by now, but the reason pagers are used is because they are incredibly emergency resistant. If the cell network is clogged, a pager message can still get through.

My grandma and mom have been nurses all their lives and I can tell you, nurses are for real the backbone of hospitals.

I’m a nurse. Had to take my partner to the hospital (he’s a paramedic)and we watched a new doctor trying to take blood and put in an IV 🤦🏼‍♂️😂 he was apologetic to say the least. What’s more funny is I had to tell him it wasn’t in correctly. He called a nurse. We both completely understood
