Your explanations are clear and straight forward It's always a honor to have you here as a mentor, I appreciate you for the time being spent to educate us financially. Regardless of how bad it gets the economy, I still makeover $28k every single week. I truly value Lee Davis, and him helpful guides.

Christians can rightly say, “Better than I deserve, ” because we recognize we deserve wrath for our sins, so anything good that happens in life is much, much better than we deserve.

My parents practically worked 9-5’s all their life and lived frugally. No debt couple homes paid in full.

I am a true believer regarding generosity; when my heart was touched/ transformed by my Lord, so was my pocket, it happened automatically 29 years ago. I love the Lord; He gives me more than I deserve 🙏

You Get what you deserve. You worked harder, smarter, and with that wiser. From that you learned from your past oopses. So you do get what you deserve.

When I grew up we were really poor. I remember dumpster diving for cans to cash in to help the family buy soup or Mac & cheese so we could eat. When I moved out I had nothing. Good or bad... Everything I have or done I built from scratch. I've never known anything but hard work. So I kinda identify a little. When I started finally making more than I needed. It was a very hard transition. Cause yeah... you feel like a prisoner that's rarely fed and you ration in case they forget to feed you for weeks. That's how it feels only with money. I horded money. And I have and will always hate spending money because of it. I will never forget what being poor was like.

I think you need to understand what your worries are. There's likely things you never want to go back to and you'll fight tooth and nail to never have happen again. For me, I need my expenses to be substantially under my income because paying bills where most of my income is consumed reminds me of barely surviving. And while I was barely surviving, I had several emergencies. So I don't feel comfortable with a small 6 month emergency fund. I usually have closer to a year. I know Ramsey would tear me apart for it but I don't care. Even though the math is ridiculous, knowing that if the worst things happen I could step away from my job for a year and be fine... just gives me a lot of peace of mind. And I need a plan. I don't do well unless I have a plan. Doesn't matter if I'm successful at it. I must have a plan.

The other thing that really helped me oddly enough was budgeting. Budgeting gave me a way to say all my worries are taken care of. And what's left over is something I can give or have fun with. I need to make sure all the bills are paid. Again it brings up the pain of being poor by missing a bill or not having it or whatever. So for me, like Ramseys. I take care of my four walls & and obligations first. Then I put money into the "needs" that I've mentioned above. Once I do those things.. I feel comfortable & secure. The rest of it goes into envelopes for my 1, 2, & 5 year goals. And I allow myself to error on saving more than I need. Because I know I feel better buying a 1k toy when I've saved 1.5k.

You just have to learn about yourself and understand steps you can take to give you comfort.

Just as a piece of advice is don’t give money away (donations) that’s won’t help you with that feeling of guilt. Instead, find a purpose, join a community and work quality time and resources to make good for all them.

What I don't like about the phrase "Better than I deserve" is that for me, it is also a judgement. If I don't think I deserve what I have is weird for me, because if I think that way then I think I'm a fraud, I got away with more than I should have.

I do believe I am privileged and blessed for what I have accomplished, looking back at events there's too much to be left to chance and feels like there's a force helping me and I am truly grateful for that.

I don't think I have more than I deserve because at the same time I could say I don't have what I deserve and throw my fist up, it is simply not up to me to pass that judgement and I am simply grateful for what I have received and I am doing my best to be a good person.

I'm probably saying the same thing as Dave, it just wires differently in my brain when I hear "better than I deserve".

I also have this mentality of scarcity. I was brought up with the whole thing of, "You can't do this, you can't do that." "That'll never work." "You better be careful." Just the idea of getting on a plane and going somewhere was absolutely absurd. "Don't even think about it." Anything I got was the last one I would ever have. Anything I got that was nice was taken or ruined by the older sibling.
Such an experience largely ruined future prospects. Going for a higher paid job and just taking risks in life was just something that I never even considered as a possibility.

The generosity can come from all levels of income. Recently I traveled to Santiago, Chile and so it happened the vending machine on the Subway didn't take American cads, with no cash I couldn't get the ticket. A homeless person bought it for me and handed it to me.

The bible speaks of the rich younger ruler that asked Jesus how he could inherit the kingdom of heaven and Jesus told him to sell all he had and give the money to the poor. Many reading this would think Jesus was saying that it is evil to have wealth and that no one with it is going to make it to heaven. What Jesus knew, was that the rich younger ruler thought more of his possessions than serving God. This falls under the sin of idolatry. When "stuff" is more appealing than God's plan for us. The "guilt of success" can be totally flipped by what you do with that success. Serve yourself, or serve God. Serving YOURSELF is serving Satan. Serving OTHERS is serving God.

Its said with the understanding, that as a sinner, the wages we earn are death. We deserve death from a Just God. But thanks to the saving Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we can come back into the presence of our Creator, and we are better off than we deserve, than what we are capable of earning ourselves!

I have the free version of the every dollar app and plan to get the upgrade but right now I'm budgeting like crazy! I'm wondering if there is a way that my husband can also see the budget on his phone? That way every bill every dollar is accounted for for every person?

My grandfather was born in a barn. Lived through the depression. He dropped out of high school. Started his own company. Built his own house. Became a millionare. He always felt poor because of the way he grew up.
