I interviewed neuroscientist TJ Power about the 4 most important brain chemicals: Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins. This video is the first in a 4 part series where we explore each chemical in more depth, and how we can better understand it to improve our lives. Enjoy! xx

Funny you mention singing with a group - singing in a choir filled my cup like nothing else. I'm not an phenomenal singer by any means, but I experienced such moments of pure joy and euphoria. Sounds mad, but with the right group, it made me so happy, and really enriched my life. Highly recommend, but again, the right choir is vital!

OMG Ali. This was amazing. I am a 47 year old mum of 18 year old who is struggling with lack of motivation. It’s been so difficult watching him struggle. He is a bright, sweet natured lovely young lad. He in fact introduced me to your channel. You are making such a difference to young people’s lives as an influencer and mentor. Keep up the good work!

This is hilariously well-timed - I was searching for dopamine videos 2 hours ago and wishing you had a more recent one.

Hey Ali! I had a suggestion that you could include in your video. When it comes to talking about your sponsors, lets take the current one for example - Productivity Lab, I think including a detailed little tid bit about why it works would significantly help convey its effectiveness. So for example, with Productivity Lab, you could tell us from a biological perspective why productivity lab helps students - what happens in the brain when you work with other people that increases your productivity so much and helps you get started and successful? It would enrich the results of the product by telling us how those results came about to be.

Just some food for thought!

Oh man, I just started listening to the podcast. It was funny seeing this pop up and realizing for once I actually knew what it was about beforehand!

Really good talk though, I always love these kind of things because, even if you _know_ something, it's helpful to hear it again and get it internalized a little bit more. I really liked the tips for just starting your morning - it's not uncommon for someone to say you should just get started, don't look at your phone, etc etc, but for some reason having it framed against the backdrop of dopamine and motivation really makes it click. I definitely have never made a habit of choosing a harder path and idk, maybe I should try.

The medical explanations - which were given in a very digestible format - were very nice in this video. Appreciate the style!

Oh my god. I watched you so I didn't have to read Atomic Habit for my PhD a few years ago (thanks for the summary) and now I fell into Ali Abdaal rabbit hole. Now I have to get off my phone, and now I watched your 5 Productivity things to do without doom scrolling... I am officially addicted to your voice. Nice come back from the skin care routine. Congrats on your success.

Hamza has been correct about this all the time and I feel that the world is slowly starting to realize that there is something awfully wrong with the systems we have put faith in. Looking forward to other parts of the series!

It's alarming how much we've become over reliant on the dopamine hits. For comfort, convenience, and the shiny objects we've been trained to throw away our dreams, our goals, and just settle for consumerism.

This video came out just at the right time, I had already stepped back from every social media this whole year and I only had Reddit installed and told myself that it is "helpful" but today I got rid of it finally! Now it's time to add new stuff in place of those habits. Thank you
