I'm 72 now but still remember our baker Mr. Savarinni's bread ... he use to call it a cigar loaf that was made from his mama's recipe as he said ... it had a really nice aroma and texture and a sweetness to it also... have never had such bread since he passed ...
the best recipes are truly made of great memories ...

Oh, thank God for these videos. They’re positively therapeutic. I watched this twice in a row to dispel the stress of my work day.

And, on top of the video being uplifting, I now have a terrific bread recipe to try, soon. I used to bake bread all the time. It’s one of life’s great pleasures.

Made this today and it was a WONDERful reminder of my childhood. I have never made bread until today and I’m 53 years old.

Who knew I could make bread this good? Chef John knew.

Alas!!! Good Ol'white bread from God Ol'Chef John who may be the only chef in the World who adds a pinch of Cayenne to a white bread recipe. Never had Cayenne in my pantry till I met Cheffy John

Hey chef J. Update. Ok, I made this last night. My daughter and wife have chastised me for failing before now to make this bread for their enjoyment. So, there is that. Thanks alot! It was a hit.

Chef John there's nothing as delicious as the fragrance of baking 🍞 bread. Nobody has a better recipe. Definitely trying this X can't wait. I salivate

When times were tough in England Mum used to make our own bread then slice it cover it with a good layer of lard a sprinkle of salt and give it to us for lunch. One of my most happy memories from seventy years ago. Now an oldie living in OZ there are some things I miss greatly so I watch your videos of bangers & mash to Cornish pasties & roast chicken that was an expensive Sunday lunch in those days. I miss my Mum's steak & kidney pies with an up turned egg cup in the middle to stop the pie crust sinking onto the meat. Mum, Dad, & my kid sister are long gone now & I am alone far from UK. But I would not swap my life of adventure in the Asia Pacific for all the tea in China and I have been there so many times that now I am happily married to a Chinese lady for twenty years & now now she is the joy of my life. You can't possibly cook up a mixture, a recipe like that but for me it works! and the result is just perfect.

This is almost exactly my white bread recipe. I don't know how Chef got ahold of it, he has never excepted my invitation and I have never met him so he must be sneaking around here somewhere but none the less I am honored 🤣. (I will absolutely tell all my friends, Chef John used my recipe)

Anyway, what is the difference between warm butter band "melted butter"?

A tip: if you wet the knife it will slip into the dough a little better and a chopping tecnique will keep it from catching.
