I remember hearing about a rule that states generally most sleeves will be nearly parallel to the ground, but it isn’t always the case, usually if the character isn’t perpendicular to the ground. Another rule states that typically folds will meet up at a single point, usually where the joints are. These points will always give a hint of where clothing will be stretched meaning that side of the sleeve will be pulled in that direction.

Most tutorial either wanted to refer in real life photo or just "throw it to the wall and see what stick"

No need to add stretched cloth if you don't plan on drawing clothing in the first place ;)
