I come from Bolton in which the Storming of Bolton occured where up to 1, 600 people were mas sacred by Royalist forces under Prince Rupert after a successful suprise attack on the town which occured at night in heavy rain. After the war The Earl Of Derby who took part in the action, was executed in the town, he spent his last night in the Ye Olde Man and Scythe pub that is still there, the pub originally dating back before 1251. They have a chair that he reportedly sat on, the chair was then broken by accident by the band The Who. Of course there are ghost stories of the Earl as well. Interestingly the executioners skull is for some reason now on display in a different pub on the outskirts of town called The Pack Horse Pub.

From 3: 00 onward the background music is Vivaldi ' s "Four Seasons"
which was composed in 1723 - playing for Bruegel type dancers from around 1567 ...

"Blissful prosperity" is a bit of a stretch. Tens of thousands of people were killed as a result of Henry's religious reforms.

Very important for Americans to understand this history, especially as people keep confusing Catholicism with Protestantism.

After the English Civil War, many of the Royalists fled to the American colonies, where they mostly settled in the southern colonies. Their descendants would go on to lose another civil war some 200 years later.

As I dig more and more into my family history, I have come to realize how incredibly influential the English Civil War had on why my ancestors came to North America.

None of this would have happened had Henry VIII kept it in his pants.

After 27:00 young John Gwynn there ... interesting choice in portraying the accent of a courtier who it is noted, is a Welsh Royalist cavalier speaking middle Franco-English with a lilt. Interesting.
Also the casting of Charles 1st, not prissy enough, hardly projecting the sneering condescension portrayed in the better done portraits of the whole Stewart clan.

I thought the Scots being allied with France would be more Catholic leaning.

At 26:13 ignorant of the battle of Kadesh, the Royalists stopped to plunder the goods and stuff of the fleeing enemy. 😅

I have several SPOW ancestors from the Battles of Dunbar and Worcester who were sent to work at Saugus Iron Works in Massachusetts and Great Falls Sawmill in New Hampshire as "indentured servants".

The way things are going in the UK right now, I doubt that this will be the last Civil War in the UK's history.

Who is the narrator, I've heard that voice many times in documentaries

What i learned. 1) the English are the only country to have a civil war in such a posh way 2) protestants are still heritics 3) old English had no idea what to do with the letter V. I seen it used in place of E's, A's, I's, and W's

Oh that infuriating wallpaper musak! Why why oh why? After 6 minutes I could bear it no longer. You might have chosen music that was more appropriate, and at the very least turned it down to a mere whisper.. The documentary promised much but once I’d fixed on the unseasonable drone… Shame!
