Thank you for calling out the fake skilled migration program. I work in a multinational IT company, a big name in IT professional services with clients among pretty much all the largest corporations in Australia. Their Australian incorporated office employs in my estimate over 80% of foreign workers on visas, all from a single ethnic background. How is that possible? On top of that, these same workers get exploited since if they complain about the conditions they can easily get sent back and replaced with another colleague desperate to come here. The reason why they put up with this is the carrot of potential permanent resident visa. This is the case right across the IT industry, with a devastating impact on foreign workers as well as the local workers because they all have their entitlements severly diminished over the years, stagnating wages, lots of unpaid overtime and lack of training opportunities for young graduates. This madness needs to stop and we need to go back to our long term average migration intake of around ~60k per annum as opposed to 160k+. Skilled visas need to be reserved for genuinely specialised skills and they need to be paid in the top of the income range, not the bottom. Otherwise we will impede social mobility, hollow out the middle class and create a third world country where there is only the rich elite and the poor majority.
