Today's question comes to us from Jason via email and he says:
Hi Melissa, I'm after some advice. I work as a barber and with standing all day i need to relax my lower back. What are the best moves? Is there a video on your tube I could do? Cheers, Jason

This is a great question Jason. A lot of people work standing all day from people working retail to hair stylists. One of the best things you can do after standing all day is legs up the wall or as it is called in yoga, Viparita Karani. This will help to relieve tired legs and feet, it will gently stretch the backs of your legs and relieve mild backache and it will calm your mind. Some other poses to help relax your low back after a long day on your feet include knee to chest pose (apanasana) and figure four stretch.

I highly recommend some of the more therapeutic videos available on our membership site and in our shop as well that are great for low back pain including happy hips, feet first, the foot training for connective tissue, yoga for herniated discs, and yoga for sciatica.

God bless you. I cried in pain coming home from work yesterday. I’m a cashier. I was about to put my resignation in. I just did the stretches & my back feels sooo much better, so much lighter. Thank you so so much.💞

I did the stretches for the duration of the video and I already feel better. I worked a 12 hour kitchen shift today and I thought I'd be going to bed in pain - but no more!

i work as a concessionist at the movies and it’s KILLING me having to stand for 8 hours :( this is my first job so i’m not really used to it

I work as a delivery driver, so all day I’m going up and down stairs while also running around for 10 hours a day. doing these stretches for just as long as the video was is already making me feel better. Thank you

I'm a teacher, have been standing long hours for the last 16 years, now sometimes I feel my are no more going to stand with me, my veins especially below knees, hurt a lot, do keep on sharing more videos and tips for people like me,

I walk to work, I stand in work all day, I walk from work. On my feet all day long. We discussed this already together, and I'm happy it's out there for everybody now:) But anyways, this is an amazing question, and Yoga works magic for me. Namaste Melissa _/\_ :)

work as a bus boy/waiter i get about 20, 000 steps a day and work 64 hour weeks I was feeling highly stressed and helpless. Figured some stretches might help, but I was still highly skeptical. I am writing to you a day after watching this video. I just wanted to come back and say I got the best sleep of my life after putting my legs up a wall for about 10 minutes highly recommended this!!!

It’s funny how these are poses that I did naturally as a child. Doing it now my parents will think it’s me acting childish. 😆 The legs up the wall is a common pose for rebellious teens in their bedrooms in some movies actually…hahaha! Will try these stretches out. Thanks!

Most of my jobs since 14 have required lots of standing. 18 now and at a retail store as a cashier, on concrete all day. About to do these stretches on my lunch break and hope it helps!

used to do color guard with the marching band in highschool about 3 yrs ago and we would stand and practice and stretch for like 10+ hours on some competition days and especially championship comps- basically i used my legs alot alot all throughout my highschool days.
i worked an easy part time job for 2 yrs and but now stated a 35 hr a week job where i'm on my feet moving and its way worse than doing actual exercise lmao
i need to get back in shape and get those buff ass thunder thighs back💀
this video gave some good more simple stretches than the dance ones i used to do.

i think the best thing to do is get a bar stool, and mix standing and sitting through out the day. i think standing all day is as bad as sitting all day, but strain is on your feet not your bottux.

but mixing standing and sitting thoughout the day i think is the best way to keep pressure off one area and to be more healthy.

I work 10 hrs on my feet hate it but as long as I move I don’t feel the stiffness 😊
