The funniest part about the debate around Tobi's identity was that people were going mad over things like "it can't be Madara, he can't be still alive because he'd be too old!" or "it can't be Obito, he was crushed under a rock!" I had a theory that Itachi was Jiraiya's informant in the Akatsuki. Jiraiya always said that he got his very sensitive information from a trusted source and it was revealed that Itachi was in fact providing the leaf with some information but who would he have given his information to once the third died? Jiraiya and Danzo are the only options i can think of but Itachi was not on good terms with Danzo so i doubt he would stay in contact with him.

I used to have this theory that Minato was actually Tsunades son. In her grief over Dan she gave him up and didn’t tell anyone save for jiraiya. Hence him taking him on as a student. She allows naruto to just call her grandma. It would have allowed naruto the wood release making him the parallel to the hashirama/madara and naruto/sasuke

I definitely thought pain was going to be Naruto’s older brother. Sasuke’s fight against his brother, pain having orange hair which is the mix of minato(yellow) and kushina(red). And the series keeps drilling into us that naruto doesn’t have any family.

I personally thought that naruto's talk no jutsu was his tailed beast power. All the other jinchuriki get a cool nature transformation or power based on their tailed beast, but all we knew about kyuubi was that he was the strongest and the most hateful towards humans. And at the time, i thought the two were connected, whereas the other were limited by how much sand or water they could make or use, Kurama could literally eat the hatred of nearby humans and was both strengthened and influenced by it. It explained why his own backstory was so tame compared to gaara despite being comparatively equally hated, he was eating their hatred till it turned to annoyance and apathy. It explained why he can just talk all his enemies down, he's eating at all their negative emotions. It even explained why he himself was so happy go lucky, he was literally eating his feelings. But no, apparently just a hug gets rid of a lifetimes worth of bottled up feelings and repression

You mention that one of Minato's teammates looks like the Ramen Shop Guy as evidence for the Tobi theory but couldn't he still have been Minato's teammate (with no connection to the Tobi theory) but he gave up on being a ninja and decided to follow his real passion of noodles which is why he's so nice to Naruto because he's his late teammate and friend's son

I used to have a theory that the Yamanaka may have been descendants of moon Otsutsuki. After finding out that Toneri could like see dreams and stuff, it reminded me of how the only other clan we see infiltrating the minds of anyone is the Yamanaka clan.

I remember a theory (post pain arc, pre main war arc) where Naruto were to lose his eyes at some point, possibly against Sasuke, and then implant Nagatos eyes which Konan would give to him, making him have Rinnegan. I think it died pretty hard a as theory when Naruto got Kyuubi Cloak.

My theory was that Tobi was Fugaku and that he used Izanagi to undo/fake his death to Itachi. (That's why tobi had one eye) And he planned the Uchiha revolt just to get the Leaf to attack him and to belive he was dead. Thinking that the death of his clan was all worth it for the infinite tsukiomi. Which he found out about from the tablet.

I had my own personal theory that the Uzamaki were evil, still alive and behind everything. I also had a theory that the Uzamaki’s could reproduce eye techniques because they were actually just evolved seals. I still to this day think think that an evil off shoot of the Uzamaki would be more compelling villains than Kara and aliens in Boruto.

A theory that I remember believing as a teen was that Kakashi was somewhat related to the Inuzuka clan do to his high senses, affinity for ninja hound summons, and his father literally being called white fang. A lot of people kinda just assumed Kakashi's mother was an unnamed Inuzuka but I always thought that Kakashi's father Sakumo had some relation to them. Not enough to actually be a full blood Inuzuka at that point but not to the place where all those powerful traits are fully dulled. Maybe like back in grandparents or even possibly great great grandparents there was an Inuzuka that married into the Hatake line.
It was a fun theory if you kinda ignore that Kakashi probably has heightened senses do to being trained in Anbu

I used to have two theories about Tobi. First was when Tobi said "I am an empty shell of my former self" I thought Tobi was a Black Zetsu whose soul was an exact copy of Madara's. Mirroring how White Zetsu could copy chakra/body. The second theory was when Konan broke Tobi's mask revealing what I thought was an older person made me think it was Kagami Uchiha. Kagami meaning mirror so I thought it meant he was reflecting Madara's personality. Edit: Also Kagami lived in the era of Madara which would have further supported the theory

Honestly the 8 tails thing would be sweet, it would also help explain Orochimarus knowledge of sealing jutsu and how he was able to mess with Kuramas seal that was placed on Naruto.

Yeah, I remember when the Akatsuki leader was simply "AL" because we didn't know Pain's name. People were theorizing that he was "evil Minato" and specialized in clones because of Naruto's propensity for kagebunshin

rinnegan being a rare offshoot awakening of the uzamaki makes more sense than the actual stuff. also, outside of the otsutsuki, we have seen exactly 2 rinnegans made ever, one of which was a main protagonist. if we assume nagato is 1 and that Naruto would awaken the other, that would be just as many rinnegans as there are in canon. it is actually MORE consistent to make rinnegan an uzamaki trait and requires LESS work to fenangle in the writing and the plot.
