1. Location with no distractions.
2. Time. Go with how you feel, when you feel best. Your body clock. Morning person? Evening?
3. Planning. Time blocks. Focus on Technique in one block of time. Intonation time. etc.
4. Breaks. Dont force a 4 hour run. Maybe break every 30-40 min with a mind body rest or stretch.
5. Enjoy it! Vs. Obligation, pressure, guilt
etc.

Whenever I'm feeling sad or unmotivated during practice, I just play a bit of Beethoven, and it makes me so happy. There's something about his music that lights up the world. Great tips!

Location.. In a room no furniture or curtains to dampen the sound... 2nd. Tune violin perfectly... Don't always tune A string to 440 some times lower for a change and correspondingly other strings using sympathetic vibration 3fd don't use shoulder rest... try also without chin rest.... 4th try with different bow hair tightness.... Some times a bit slack...

Can you do videos on well-known violin pieces like the Bach Double (with someone else obviously) or Tchaikovsky’s D Major Concerto?

Love your videos Esther, you're such an amazing musician, and can't believe you live in London - me too! Fantastic & useful video - even though I don't play the violin (I play piano and recorder) Love your style too! Xox

I feel like I get more done in the late morning/early afternoon when I practice. Also, I take difficult passages and break them into chunks or I do rhythm practice. I try to practice things slowly especially technical passages.Great video! I would love to see your point of view about performance anxiety.😃❤️🎹😊

nice advice! I liked what you had to say on #5 regarding motivation. I have found two things that help me in this situation. if I'm having issues with a passage in a piece or just not feeling good about what I'm practicing, I will switch between 2 or 3 excerpts of music every 20 to 30 minutes. this keeps my attention and focus high while working particularly difficult passages while keeping me from becoming frustrated. second, I will save a piece that I really look forward to practice for the end of my practice. this allows me to exhaust my energy practicing really challenging music or music that I'm just not looking forward to. this gives me something to look forward to at the end of the session.

Hello Esther! I'm so glad I discovered your channel. My son started violin lessons at the age of 10 which is considered from many as a quite late age to start, but you prove them wrong with your amazing skills! He's being having lessons for some months and I was wondering if you could suggest a practicing program suitable to his age as for him not to get frustrated with slow progress on one hand and not feeling pressured to stick to long and frequent practising on the other hand. Thank you in advance and wishing you all the best!

Since leaving university I’ve had to be very strict with my practice time, this video has really helped me! Planning practice and where you practice is so important - I also like doing short stints for optimum concentration!

Love your channel!
Just one suggestion: if you look into the camera it will add a more personal and directed-to-your-viewer feel. Now you look just a fraction another way. Best and keep going!
