I planted lettuce seeds in a baby pool 4 years ago. It is in semi shade. It has reseeded itself and I never had to plant again. It does well spring, summer, fall and winter until we get a freak freeze that kills it. It didn't make it through the -15 wind chill we got. But, I'm betting I will get new seeds sprouting again. If not, I'll amend the soil, which it needs, and replant.

Im also in Southern California. I need to make a cover for my two 4’ x 8’ x 12” raised garden beds immediately! My bok choy, baby lettuce, cabbage and other plants are getting wiped out by earwigs and snails.
I may just transfer them to totes to make covering them easier.
Once again this year my in ground garden is getting taken over by gophers. They literally have taken out all of my tomato plants down into their tunnel. So frustrating!
They were doing so beautifully too 😢

So far here in zone 10a Florida (in my garden) it is Endive that grew all year long, while Romaine just teased me and laughed and laughed. LOL it's finally cool here so I need to give some romaine seeds more chances. I got some old dish pans given to me. Because of you, I know how to put them to good use. Thanks
