We make lettuce seed tapes to make sowing faster when it's cold outside. Make a 50:50 paste using flour and water. Glue the seeds onto toilet paper at your preferred spacing. Use a toothpick or watercolor brush. Put another layer of toilet paper over your seed tapes while the glue is still damp. Place in the garden in early spring and cover with a 1/2 inch of soil. The paper biodegrades quickly. Making seed tapes is a great project for kids. This works for other small seeds like carrots.

We cut off a head of lettuce and leave the stem in the ground. Bibb or leaf type, they all regenerate multiple crops before summer heat overwhelms even the slow to bolt varieties.

These videos and comments are a wonderful way for gardeners to learn and share.
