I went from zero coffee all my life. Had a kid and then been drinking 3+ per day.

Salary potential also has to do with what type of job you take. In my area, contracting dev jobs are becoming more and more common but they definitely pay a ton more. I’m currently making $52 an hour as a React and React Native dev. There was also another 6 month contract near by for $65 an hour. Granted, contracting isn’t for everyone as you never really stay in one place for too long, but you gain a ton of exposure to many different companies and technologies while making pretty decent money. I even know contractors that work only 8 months out of the year because they make all of the money they care to make in that amount of time and then take the rest of the year off. So keep that in mind, full time positions aren’t the only ones out there.

I live in Manhattan and I just accepted a entry role and the average is 60-70 thousand. Pretty tough to live in those means if you don’t know how to get around New York and allocate your cash.
Average also depends on which sector / industry you work in and what type of company it is.

I actually wanted to become a software engineer in Cleveland, I grew up here. Do you have any tips on places to go?

Also it depends on the country, somewhere in Africa paying 500$ a month for 10 years experience software engineering.
That's crazy

I worked in silicon valley as a electrical engineer and it was crazy expensive to live...I airbnb a 1story...3 bed room... that price tag was 1.2 million dollars. It was rare to hear that people out there owned there own house and didn't have like 5 people living with them. I must say silicon valley is extremely dope for anyone who loves tech and want to be around others who love tech and have the mindset to be a CEO or a legit inventor. People out there take young tech people very serious. And its alot of open events at every tech company out there.

Well as someone who just got into this field, here’s my experience:

If you’re entry level with 0 experience, no internships, and live somewhere the cost of living isn’t crazy like CA or NY then you can expect to make between 60-70k assuming you’re not an IVY league prodigy but rather the average CS student getting a degree.

“Starting salary around 60k.” BRO. I make about 40k working in a prison. I’ll take the 20k pay raise to do a job I love that doesn’t make me feel like I’m gonna get stabbed each day.

This is pretty useful! Considering I’ll eventually be in the workforce after college, but right now getting the degree is a bit of a struggle. That’s why I decided to upload the truth behind being a CS student

Love finding out more numbers in software engineering as a cs major and I was wondering about info on remote jobs and how they pay so I can control my cost of living as a junior dev

Salaries are also based on stacks. If you're experienced in popular stacks like reactjs, Django/Python, nodejs etc then demand more

Amazing video! Very informative and interactive. What are your thoughts on coding bootcamps for the ones who does not want to take the traditional road/ college debt etc?
