Exploring Dubai's Developing Design Community

Design in the UAE has evolved rapidly from a creative pastime into a valued but nascent industry. Architects and designers Tarik Zaharna, Hatem Hatem, Salem bin Faisal Al-Qassimi, Jumana Taha and Mentalla Said are at the forefront of this evolution. In this short film they discuss their ambitions to improve standards of quality and critical discourse, and the crucial role of Dubai’s vernacular architecture and traditional craft in forming a national design dialogue that can become part of a global conversation, not just a regional one.
