How to Spot a POTSie

Which one of these do you relate to most? And when did you first notice it?

What I always find fascinating when speaking with POTSies is how long they've been unconsciously doing these behaviors ⏳

Many have been doing these for years before they got diagnosed.

Salt: Extra salt has been found to increase blood volume and lower heart rate. It's interesting how POTSies tend to crave salt before even finding out why they should consume more salt. I've always loved pickles, olives, soy sauce, etc., and would often crave it, but I never realized why.

Position: Many with POTS might sit in positions that help pump more blood up towards the top half of the body. I've always found it most comfortable to elevate my feet by sitting with my feet up on my chair or the table.

Hot Bath/Shower: Showering is not a relaxing activity for most of those with POTS. Heat widens the blood vessels, causing those with POTS to feel weak and possibly even faint. I used to think that my bath was just too hot, but then I realized that others can bathe in much hotter temperatures without having symptoms afterward.

Although POTS and dysautonomia are incredibly frustrating, it's always interesting to note how smart our bodies are. How much they do try to regulate and help us out.

Are you listening to the hints it's giving off, or are you just pushing through?

Can’t go anywhere without their water bottle.

Never drink plain water.

Have to sit down way more often than everyone else.

I’ve had pots since I was ten. I struggled so much with the salt thing lmao. I can’t look at noodles the same way again.

Shower time is hell especially on the days. I have to wash my hair and shave my legs.
