[Dr. Cyrus Khambatta has since decided to leave Mastering Diabetes and is no longer with the company. We wish him all the best.]

Diabetes management has a lot to do with managing your blood glucose, blood pressure, and weight. It's a lot of work. But conflicting information about what you can and cannot eat makes the task even more daunting.

Among the most prevailing concerns is the fear that eating fruits will cause a sudden spike in blood glucose because they contain sugar. Well, that's nothing but MYTH! And Cyrus is ready to show you why and how.

The notable rise in blood glucose experienced by people with diabetes is primarily due to insulin deficiency (in the case of type 1 diabetes) or insulin resistance (common in pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes).

Remember that insulin helps blood sugar enter the cells so the body can use it for energy. And so when that function is disrupted because of excess fat that accumulates in cells, you have a major problem. You have foods to blame for that. But fruits are not one of them.

I've read LOTS of nutritional/health books over the last 2 decades and am always looking for improvement. I don't have diabetes, or even prediabetes, but what this book teaches will help me get even better. I've read other diabetes books before too. This is the best one I've read and have highlighted and underlined it to death. If you're being told that carbs are bad, then get this book now.

I am seeing two opposite sides getting kinda same results. Both the keto/carnivore and the vegan/frutarian diet brings healing. Could it be that only earing sugar and or carbs together with fat and protein causes illness?

Hi, Dr Kambatta.
I had an HbA1c of 8.8, about ten months ago. I slowly, without proper knowledge, started shifting towards what you prescribe here. When I found your channel, I got a big boost. The most important factor is restricting dietary fats.
I still do eat a bit of white flour and a significant amount of white rice. I compensate for that by eating a lot of fibre, mostly in the form of raw vegetables and fruits. I have started consuming much more fruits than before, though not as much as you recommend.
I do consume about 300 ml of milk or curd for B12 and gut microbions.
You would be surprised at the changes brought about just by this partial submission to your recommendations.
Other than blood sugar levels, I could see a lot of difference in my skin.
1. Liver patches on my cheeks have lightened a lot and are very close to getting almost eradicated.
2. My problem with acidity and a bit of a problem with piles is gone.
3. There were very dark patches at places on my nose, where my spectacles (I were them all through the day) rest - they have almost vanished.
4. I have a schist on my back, which had formed a black patch of about 20mm dia. Now the diameter of the black patch has reduced to about 6mm.
5. There were a lot of cracks on my heels and they have almost vanished.
I do 16 - 8 early time-restricted eating (five days a week) to control my calorie intake. Eat a high-carb, high-fibre, low fat and moderate-protein diet.
We eat about 300 gms of chopped vegetables, along with about 25 gm of curds, some herbs and seeds, along with about 5 gm of olive oil or Seaseme oil right in the morning.
Eating just the above-mentioned vegetable bowl, daily, and with no other restrictions, my son who is 30 years old, lost about 5 pounds in just a month.

Thank you a lot.

This gives me hope! Thank you so much. I have not been able to eat a lot of sweet fruits but it is improving slowly. I just switched to a low fat plant based raw vegan diet, unfortunately my husband decided to go on the carnivore diet 😮 pray for him! And me!

I have been monitoring my glucose with a CGM and I can't believe how if I just eat fruit, my sugar spikes and drops decently and improving over time. I do notice if I have a big meat/fat meal, my insulin doesn't spike nearly as high but it doesn't come as down to same level for a long time, like even a whole 24 hours of fasting... Very interesting.. Thank you

Okay, this makes a little bit of sense because I can't digest high fatty cuts of meat. So I have been super low carb for months now. My glucose will stay around 99-120. I am definitely insulin resistant, with an A1C of 5.1, which I'm not sure how it can be that low and have such issues with fruit. I ate some fruit for the first time in months yesterday, and bam - 177. I was horrified. Also, believe it could be due to food intolerance. Thoughts? I'd love to correct this and eat more fruit. Right now I'm doing a lot of veggies and meat.

Do you think fruits are healthier for insulin resistance than e.i potatoes and oats etc non fruit carbs, because fructose doesn't need insulin?

Hi Cyrus, I've been watching on various YouTube channels that even if fruits do not spike blood sugar, their high fructose content damages the liver. Is this true? Thank you and regards--from Mumbai, India.

Again, I am of that 17%? Of people pre-diabetes at 5’7” and 132 pounds before KETO. Never was anywhere near fat. Still not explaining where the insulin resistance is coming from.

Its not the dietary fat, its triglycerides forming from the sugar intake! You need low carbohydrates diet not the low fat!

So, whilst insulin resistant you d have minimum to no fruit?

Exercise makes your heart rate spike in the short run, but it is good for you in the long run. Similar with whole food carbohydrates and blood glucose.

If one eats too much of anything it can be stored as fat, whether it's protein, carbs, or fat.

I thought fruit results in Fructose not Glucose and the Fructose is processed differently, by the liver?
