Wow this version definitely changes the tone. The original sounds sulky and apologetic. This one actually sounds like the singer is facing a turning point in his life and coming to terms with his choices in the past and how it has effected those he should have cared for most.

This sounds remorseful, and in the same light sometimes hopeful, like the person regrets whatever they've done and truly wants to be better. Fighting through the guilt and desire to give up to try to carry on.
There's, more soul, more drama, to this than the original. It's gorgeous!
