MAJOR TO MINOR: What Does 'How Far I'll Go' Sound Like in a Minor Key? (Moana Cover)

As part of my ongoing series in which I take songs in a major key and transpose them to a minor key, here's my rendition of "How Far I'll Go" from Disney's Moana!

In the original version, it just sounds like a dream for her. In this, it sounds true, and destined. It's like she's telling them now, instead of imagining it.

This sounds like a Disney villain realizing her potential to conquer and achieve power. Someone who's lived in a cheery, simple town has become tired of the insipid lifestyle and knows that she could be more. Like the line "If I go there's just no telling how far I'll go." makes it feel like Moana has become unstoppable in her path and if anyone crosses her, they would face terrible consequences.

Get some really good vibes of Simba basically saying he can't wait for his father to die so he can overthrow and take his place

I clicked on this expecting a terrible sounding meme-ish video. This was astounding. I absolutely loved it. Holy crap

Dude this sounds like a dystopian future where everyone's brainwashed into believing they're happy but Moana is the rebellious character who is the only one who isn't affected by the brainwashing. In other words, I LOVE THIS.

Damn, the show made the lyrics sound like it was a dream to go to the ocean, but this makes it sound like an obsession. I guess editing is everything.

Honestly, this song sounds more like a song about leaving home or suicide and self harm, and it’s extremely dark, seriously, just changing the key changes everything

Instead of a happy little island village with a curious girl, this version sounds like a warrior who wants to explore just for the heck of conquest and power. Just... the minor key, guys. It's powerful.
