Leaky Outdoor Water Faucet

How to fix a leaky outdoor water faucet fast and easy.

One of the viewers brought this issue to my attention: The big nut is 1+1/8" and the smaller nut is 7/8" but this is just on this manufacturer and yours might be different. You can get away with using pipe-wrenches, adjustable wrenches, vice grips or even the closest metric sizes you can find, as long as they're not too tight.

Thank you for all the kind responses, the thumbs-up and especially for your time. It's truly great to help so many people and help save them money in these crazy, uncertain times.

Thank you for a very helpful video, especially the parts where you zoom in to show detail. My husband is disabled and not able to help with these kinds of repairs. I’m trying to learn as much as possible so I don’t need to call a repairman. This was perfect for me and now it’s all fixed, thanks to you!

Wow! You are a great teacher. Guys usually do not explain the why, and that is what us women need. Thank you

I went through 4-5 other videos and this one is by far the best. You just saved me several hundred dollars. Thank you!

This video was straight forward and easy to follow! This was EXACTLY what I was looking for, because I have BOTH of these issues with my spigot in the back yard. Thanks for the video.

Tip: If you replace the gland ("top washer"), first use some ~400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to remove corrosion from the stem where it contacts the gland before reassembly.

Maybe very basic but husband is always too busy at work to fix it and no one explained it like you just did, awesome thanks a lot!!

Thank you for your step by step and easy to follow instructions. I can take an M16 apart blindfolded but I’m just now learning house maintenance since I retired. Thanks to people like you who are willing to share knowledge on YouTube, I am not so quick to call the plumber anymore. Thank you John.

Thanks for taking the time to make this. I have this exact problem and keep putting off the repair. Once I do it the first time and see how easy it is.. I'll probably wander the Neighborhood looking for Leaky Faucets...or go take a Nap.. Thanks again.

Thanks John! My faucet was simpler, I only had one nut to deal with. I had done the replacement a long time ago but forgot the procedure, this helped a lot. Only the small one on the back needed replacement. Before heading to the hardware store, I checked my collection of rubber seals and to my delight, an old seal from the kitchen faucet looked identical so I gave it a try and whadaya know? It worked! I like saving a trip. Also before I reassembled the faucett I put a light bit of a product by Permatex called anti seize, it's an aluminum colored muck so I if I need to repair the faucett again it will come apart easier. The replacement seal was marked "OO" These old faucetts needed the seals changed more often but they are relatively easy to do. Think about that before someone talks you into "buy a new one." I have done it plenty of times with the kitchen, shower and outside faucetts. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you so much. I hope the spigots I have are the same type. Just yesterday, noticed the second was leaking, too. You saved me a $200 "just to show up" fee from the plumbers around here. I'll do my own stuff when I can.

Very helpful video. One of my outdoor faucets has been leaking, and I was looking for how to replace an entire faucet in a brick house, when I stumbled upon your video. I'm going to try going the washer replacement route before looking at the entire faucet now. Thank you for a great DIY video.
