This action confuses all the students in the class. Shoko flips to another page in the notebook, where she writes that she would like to get to know everyone through the notebook since she cannot hear. She suggests using the notebook for communication if they want to talk to her. Later, as the students start introducing themselves to Shoko through the notebook, Naoka begins making fun of her. When asked about her nickname, Shoko writes that it is "Sho," which is the same as the nickname her classmate Shoya.
