The first naturalist mission I did Harriet wanted to kill a bunch of fur trappers, in my head I thought “is this really necessary, like they’re just trying to make a living” then when I got there I heard one of the guard talk about another guy getting frisky with the panther the night before and instantly charged in guns blazing

I found out that if you start a blood money mission
(stage coach stickup) and go to the legendary animal location of your choice it will spawn like 99% of the time

Problem with hunting legendary animals is they are a random event (which includes strangers, ambushes, following dogs treasure hunters/maps etc )and only one at a time can happen meaning if someone else in the lobby elsewhere has triggered any of these then you won’t get any legendary animals regardless of perfect conditions.. best thing to do is getting a solo lobby and it’ll be much much easier

This has got be the most long winded way of saying: sedate all animals and collect blood samples, sell them till you unlock missions then do missions as well

Great guide! I’m done this role but I have a friend who’s not and I’ll definitely be passing this info along.

One thing that’s helpful for newcomers to know as well is the clicking noise that plays once you’ve pumped enough sedative rounds into an animal. Before I knew what that meant I remember just unloading on the animal until it went down. Which you don’t have to do and it saves a lot of ammo.

What I don't get is the field guide requires killing and skinning the animals as well yet she gets pissed at you for doing this and won't talk to you for a while. Makes zero sense at all.

I’d really like it if this role could get some type of rework. It’s not good pay wise, it’s sort of boring to play, and it works in direct contradiction to one of the best roles. I don’t know how they could rework it, but the sampling and collecting stamps is a very cool thing in my opinion. Sadly it’s basically doomed to simply be a way to farm legendary aninals

I love the naturalist role, and Harriet, it was fun and refreshing when it dropped, but I always felt it should have been given higher returns to be competitive with the other roles

I was never really into hunting and hunting without killing is new level of this. I kinda hate this role, but to be fair, it has some rewards worth making few first levels. Also crazy spray bottle girl is kinda funny.
