HireVue Video Interview

Not too long ago, HireVue and other video platforms incorporated AI technology to help them in their hiring decision process.

In other words, a bot will analyze what you say, how you say it, and even in what voice tone you say it to determine if you're a good candidate!

In this week's video, I will tell you exactly how HireVue builds its video interview model so that you understand exactly how they think so that you say exactly what they want to hear!

Next, we will see how you can prepare for your video interview to make the robot choose you at the end, and hopefully get hired!

This presents a problem to people with mental challenges. If a person has autism for example, they might struggle to establish and maintain eye contact; are sometimes incapable of reading body cues and facial expressions; have a monotone voice; may not understand very complex issues vary from person to person. Having an in-person interview with them might help you see past the disability and really see the person's strengths. But this system automatically disqualifies a lot of people, who by the way, make fantastic employees. I think this will increase the discrimination of the atypical community who make excellent and loyal employees but often struggle with social about it, would this system have enabled Elon Musk to pass the interview process, or would it have automatically disqualified him because he has aspergers and possesses some of the challenges listed above.

I had no clue what HireVue was, but I was able to get through it to the in-person interview stage even though I didn’t think I did that well on the HireVue video interview.

While this may be the inevitable future of hiring, I find it rather dystopian. As many have already mentioned in the comments, there are plenty of people who will be at a disadvantage in this type of system. In addition, even if you know the means by which to "game" the system, the fact that I'm here to figure out what the AI is looking/listening for is gross. I used to consider myself a master of interviews because I was able to establish report with another human being. This system does not allow for that. There is no 2 way conversation, its just you talking to a box. A box that doesn't fundamentally understand what it is to feel and be and simply stares back at you.

I truly hope this goes away, because it was the worst interview experience of my life. I hated not talking to a person.

Thanks for the tips! Do you think this is better than traditional interviews? Personally not a fan of virtual interviews

Thanks for the video. It’s quite interesting that you now have to pretend more than ever to be successful in an interview.

In procurement positions, we prefer candidates having a poker face. I wouldn't like to see a procurement professional with a genuine smile on his face when negotiating with a supplier

Doesn't HireVue work in favour for those who are great speaking to the camera (not so much to real people) over people who are great with face to face communication but crap at talking to an empty screen/lens?

If you’re using a phone make sure you turn off the data for the other apps on your phone 🙃

I think this is a dangerous avenue to go down…when I see a posting that requires this, I avoid that posting. It takes the human out of humanity.

I’m really ill when sitting mine, I left it until the last day in the hope I’d get better—I didn’t.

Hopefully it doesn’t impact it too much, it’s so hard to speak!

I have no job.
I have no computer.
I have no place to live.
I have no idea on how to hook this crap up.

This guy needs to broaden his horizons. So everyone needs to smile, be not boring and voice tone not "odd" or no one will hire you. Some sweeping statement.

Just because you have a Hirevue interview does not necessarily mean a robot is watching you. I know for a fact that EY has a human review all of their Hirevue interviews. At least in Canada that is.
