You know a performance is timeless when you don't see the actor playing a character. You just see the character. That's how phenomenal Ledgers performance is in this entire film

Plot twist: Joker accidentally switched the addresses because he was fuzzy after all the hits he took

Feel that momentum of true despair and anger as Batman momentarily freezes before furiously attacking, because he's totally right, he kills Joker there with all his fury and both victims will die anyway. Batman's hands are visibly shaking with pure desperation trying to intimidate him and Joker is enjoying every second of it.
