I can kinda relate. I got bullied all the time during 6th and 7th grade. Before my 8th grade year summer of 2010, my aunt's boyfriend at the time taught me how to fight as he was former army. My parents even taught me how to stand up for myself. I became a different person and started to not take crap from people

Stan and ford have a younger brother named shermie and he is also the grandfather of dipper / mason and mabel

In my opinion, at the beginning of the series Dipper was physically weaker than Mabel as it is obvious that she was good at sports and social expert, however at the beginning of s2, he grew stronger and more muscular than her due to of the hard chores Stan was giving him to toughen him up and he was proud of him despite his teasing to him and that's why he didn't need to do the same with Mabel as she is already strong.
A wise person once said : "Hard life makes strong people, strong people make easy life and easy life makes weak people".
And that doesn't mean that he favors her over him, no he deeply loves them both.
