It’s about to be a spicy New GPU Season!

Let's be honest, 99% of gamers couldn't afford high end GPU anyway.

They are not giving up. They are realizing that their customer base cares more about price to performance. So that's their goal

Headline should be "AMD gives up on Nvidia but not on pc gamers"

so the most powerful rx 8000 will probably be the best price for performance gpu on the market and the 5090 will cost twice as much as the 4090

If i can get 7900xtx + performance with less power consumption for under $550, That's a real win

the Ryzen 4070 is the competition for the 5090

It's not that AMD *can't* go head to head with Nvidia on top-of-the-line gpus, it's that they don't have the resources to do that AND make lots of low-mid tier consumer/gamer gpus. I believe they have prototyped gpus designed to go up against the 3090 & 4090, but they never left the lab cus it wouldn't be worth it for AMD to put them into production.

AMD is still a small company compared to Nvidia. They have to use their limited resources carefully.

As the biggest AMD Fan, This is why I will never switch to Nvidia or Intel, AMD is like the GTX 1080 Ti, because it ages like fine wine, their budget friendly options are the best.

Considering the fact that most people buy Hugh-end Nvidia graphics card over AMD, it would be great if they will be affordable since most of the people I know spend around €800-1200 for a good PC build instead of one PC part.

it's not like everyone needs a 4090 level GPU
so i don't think this decision is any worse than what they were doing before

Daily driver in my PC is RX6800, plenty for gaming on higher settings in 2k at 144Hz, no need for 4090

Got my 7900xtx for 900$ back in January. Realy happy about it, back then a 4080 in Sweden cost around 1700$

Amd is not some indie small company by any means, I’m honestly surprised they came forward with this statement. Sounds like hr/pr speak for “we’d rather not use our resources and compete against nvidia where we can’t, better use it where there’s a larger market share to fight for” nothing wrong with that but I hope nvidia doesn’t take this as a sign to focus on their mid range and disregard their top range given amd’s literal official statement of not being in competition

Finally a tech CEO who understands his customer base it genuinely pains me how fucking rare that is nowadays

This makes considerably more sense. They can target the mid range market which usually is more people, then drop a super high end GPU every 3 to 5 years that just blows whatever nvidia gpu reigning at the time off the roof. That way they can have enough time to test and better the gpu before it releases

Thats smart move from AMD. They have data and statistics that majority of gamers are low-mid range. Gamers who has high end spec PC with 4K monitor probably only 10% - 15% in the world, while the rest 90% - 85% are low mid gamers who gaming on 360p - 1080p, not even 2K. So yeah, they pulling Samsung & Sharp move to produce more low - mid range products bcuz their biggest sales came from low - mid products. Rich people will not buy a product that they think only for poor people even if it performs the same or even better.

I just want them to be better for creators, their highest end gpu is probably what's gonna be perfect in like 3 years for me
