Nvidia is Clearly Better, Right?

Over the lifetime of RDNA2 AMD has apparently improved the experience a lot, making us wonder... should you actually choose Nvidia for your next GPU? Particularly when AMD left some performance on the table we hope to extract using the Radeon Monster Profile.

Note: We talked to 1usmus after the video and it seems like the Radeon Monster Profile didn't work as well with our Intel processor. The Radeon Monster Profile tweaks Re-Bar which can significantly improve performance, but at times this seems to conflict with the Intel microcode leading to worse performance. If you have an all AMD build it should be even better. -AC

What amazes me are the fact that AMD doing a two front fights (gpu & cpu) with each front having much larger opponent (nvidia & intel) yet still manages to compete and stay relevant to this point.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Alex saying he swapped his GPUs and forgot he had done it and saved $200 - this was by far the most valuable line in the video to me, as a prospective buyer. Far more than any chart or graph you could show me, anecdotal as it is

Really looking forward to the mid range cards of the next generation, in my opinion the mid range cards actually dictate who won between AMD and Nvidia

AMD deserves a thanks for not asking for crazy high prices.

One thing you cannot underestimate is how AMD supports open technology. Ignoring the fact their Linux drivers are open-source, they were one of the biggest creators of DisplayPort in the VESA group. They also created Freesync (using the DisplayPort technology they pushed) and they also provided basis for Vulkan to Kronos Group from their own, proprietary API (that no one used).

Wow that 6700 XT actually looks like a video card that goes into a normal computer and not something you have to build the rest of your computer around

One of the interesting things is that as a Linux user, the situation with drivers are almost flipped. Nvidia has really wonky proprietary drivers that replace a large part of the Linux graphics stack, but AMD (and Intel) have open source drivers that use Linux's Mesa graphics stack, so they work out of the box with no additional drivers needed and have very good compatibility and API support.

AMD is in a REALLY good spot now. Best decision I ever made was to wait for the big three (AMD, Nvidia and Intel) to release their flagships. I'm definitely getting an AMD.

My last 3 GPUs were all AMD, I played hundreds of different games on them. I never had any issues with AMD drivers.

I just went from a 2070 super to a 6800xt about 2 weeks ago and the upgrade was fantastic for me! Great increase in fps and everything has been quite stable with a manual UV and OC. I have a ryzen 5600x as well and ive been very happy with the move to team red so far.

It's amazing how good amd has got these years, I am now going to buy a high end laptop with an Amd cpu and honestly at the price I found it It is a lot more convenient than the high end alternative by intel, It will be a beast of a cpu

I’ve always been a Nvidia customer but I may switch to Radeon graphics cards. They have low power draw and very competitive prices. For me, I care more about price to performance and it seems like AMD really delivers in that aspect.

It wasn't until I saw the video that I noticed that the Resize Bar technology performed much worse on Intel processors. The profile on 305W should show performance around 21900 points for TS, on the bench with Intel we get a result of 21200. Yes, this is the result, but you can do better. There are quite a few calibrations of innovations ahead. A little patience.

Many thanks to the Linus Tech Tips team for this great video :)

My take on this: Never be an early adopter for products. It’s almost always in your best interest to wait 1-2 years post release for stability, performance, and prices to improve. Got a 6900 XT for 700$ and have had 0 regrets or issues.

There's some 6700XT going for as low as 300$ where I live. While 3060ti is still something like 400 to 450

6750XT in my build currently.
It's killing it on every game I play.
I'm regularly getting 100+ FPS at 1440P high/ultra settings

I am using rx 6600 right now. Nice little card, which consumes about 50-70 watts in most games (with a bit of undervolt). Completely fine for 1080p 60 fps gaming

AMD's improvements on drivers are clearly noticeable on older cards too, I've got a 5700 and in some games I've managed to go from medium settings to everything maxed out with the GPU not being maxed out.

My 5700XT is still going strong two years down the line! I bought it at the height of the driver issues debacle, yet I haven't experienced anything related to drivers, or at least I haven't noticed the issues.

While this hasn't done much for performance, I put it under water, which means the memory chips and VRM aren't affected by the 0 RPM mode issues others have experienced as well.

I'm at the point of upgrading it though, my 1440p panel asks for more FPS, and those new RDNA3 cards are looking mighty interesting...
