Head waters of the Yellowstone River
Episode 3

Finding the upper head waters of the Yellowstone River in Wyoming on horseback. This journey will take us through the Bridger Teton & Shoshone Wildernesses. Up and over Deer Creek Pass down into the Thoroughfare Drainage to the Yellowstone River and Bridger Lake. Then up the river to the head waters where water starts on the mighty Yellowstone River. Then we will travel across the Buffalo Plateau and down Marston Pass to the South Fork of the Shoshone River, and travel out along the Canyons of the Shoshone River that Buffalo Bill help build in the 1880s

This will be a 3 episode video to show the massive journey it took to reach the head waters of the Yellowstone River where water starts and journey back. I tried to make a short version video of this journey but could not. It was just too wild, too big, and too grand of a landscape. So please watch all three episodes and enjoy this trip or Journey, to find the head waters of the Yellowstone River as we did.

We traveled by horseback over 3 mountain passes, three water sheds like the Yellowstone River that lead to the Missouri River. Head waters of the Snake River to the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. Also the Shoshone River that continues down to the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers. We traveled by horseback 126 miles in some of the wildest county in the lower 48 starts. Enjoy our journey on the biggest screen you have.

Please comment and share your feedback with us. We would love to hear from you.

Be sure to like and share if you enjoyed this video. and above all thanks for tuning in. More wilderness horseback trips to come.

Stay curious and explore

Special thanks to Lee, Hunter and Alex of Livingstone outfitters in Cody Wyoming for there help in making this trip happen (307)899-3057

It's been 45 years since my dad and I packed 20 miles into the Gros Ventre and hunted Elk and Sheep, these videos sure brought back some good memories of the beautiful country and the quietness of the wilderness. Our horses weren't as well mannered as your fine looking string but they did pretty good. My dad is gone now and I'm not in good health, but I sure do appreciate you making these videos. I miss those trips that we made in there.

You did a fine job gathering footage on this ride. I watched all 3 episodes. The clarity made the scenery stand out life like. Crossing those boulder fields was quite something. Great trip with no wrecks. Riding the rim of Heaven.

Even the worst case of saddle sores in the world would have been worth that trip for me. Great video and super well done. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Absolutely fantastic ! The scenery is truly amazing and your camera work is second to none ! Your love of life in the wilderness and your care and love for your animals really comes through in these videos.
We can’t wait to come over from the UK again in the spring and drive down to that Cabin Creek trailhead and hopefully take some areal photographs of those stunning mountains up above the Shoshone river. That forest fire of 12 years ago must of been terrible.
Such a good video, think we will watch it again. Best wishes and stay safe…Des and Shirley.

the sounds and your comments really bring the video to life; sounds of birds, the running waters, the thunder and all is wondrous

What I find so fascinating about the entire trip is someone went and built those trails by hand through all of that insane terrain.

Kudos to the photographer. Those still Picts are absolutely beautiful.

Nice very nice! Some of the terrain looked really sketchy, the shale and rocks must have been tough on the horses. I would have been holding my breath on some of those trails.

I really loved your series. Brings back lots of memories. We’re from Wisconsin and trailered our horses out to Wyoming every year and rode many miles of the back country in the 20+ years we did it. We no longer have our trusty steeds but this sure made me smile and reminisce
