Cleaning thermal paste off those AM5 cpus will be so much fun!

They need to do a full comparison of all the "claimed $200 msrp" gpus from the past 5-8 years. 6500XT vs 5500XT 8gb vs 580 4gb vs 480 4gb vs R9 380 vs R9 270x.

With RSR coming out and $200 for what is essentially a 4GB 5500XT 2.0, it looks like I'll keep my 580 forever

AMD : "$199 for RX 6500 XT"
Gamers : "Ah yes. A glorified RX 580 4GB for $200. No thanks..."
Miners : "A'ight. Imma head out.."
Scalpers : "I'll buy the entire stock."

Intel better enter the gpu market asap. These prices for a card similar to a 580 but with half the memory is just painful.

CPU news is definitely pretty hype. Especially starting to replace Vega with RDNA2 graphics.
GPU news is definitely "meh". $200 for 580-class performance is just "hey, 'member when you could buy low end for $200 or less? Oh, I 'member!" Like throwing bread crumbs to the homeless and expecting praise.

Though I expect about the same to be happening when the RTX 3050 gets launched, too.

Why people always refer to newer RX 580, when its real age should be counted from RX 480 release which is 2016. So technically - it's "RX 480" 5.5 year later at higher actual retail price.

My theory on why the 5800X3D is clocked lower is because of the additional thermal interface of the stacking silicon between the CPU dies and the heat spreader that is used to even out the chiplet after the 3d cache is added.

The laptop market has become more competitive which is great news for consumers.

RX 6500 XT would be a nice $99-130 card like the HD7790 😊

It’s really weird that they cut the CUs in half on the 6 core CPUs?!?! Something like a 6600u is more likely to ship without a dedicated GPU than a 6800H. They are knocking it’s performance back down to Vega 8 levels? WTH?

Lightening the heat spreader with those cut outs should help with cornering in fast bends, making a timed lap around the Nurburgring a bit faster....next thing you know, they'll be employing Titanium and drilling more holes in it. 🙂

Thank you very much for this brief, but very good recap. I would love more of these for sure. Keep up the good work.

comparing this 6500xt with very old gen card instead of 5500xt looks sketchy af. If they are not confident enough to do this, I guess it means that independent reviews will probably show no improvements over this new gen part.

On the one hand, the 5800X3D is the Zen 3 part I've been holding out for since I heard about the new cache technology. On the other hand, being benched against the 12900k suggests that's the price bracket they're going after, which is consistent with rumours about how costly the new packaging technology is.

Someone talk me out of wanting this thing.

I wonder what the thermal paste application is gonna be like on those new cpu shapes

Finally integrated RDNA(2)

Can't wait to build that in my HTPC

My Pentium PC still has plenty of time before the upgrade, I see

CPUs are actually kinda exciting right now. It's nice to see after so much stagnation.

Imagine an APU case 12 RDNA2 cores, and the 6500xt has 16. This is pathetic if the APU comes close.
