When Barry and Jamie go head-to-head in a cooking battle, they often copy each other to get by… but what happens when we split them up so they can’t see each other cooking? Today is the day that we find out!!

In this episode, our resident Chef, Ben, guides our Normals into making one of the most difficult pastry dishes to master: the Mille Feuille. With a no-nonsense approach, lots of cheffy jargon and a heavily technical process to follow, will our Normals be able to ‘think like a chef’? Or will they crack under pressure?

Soppy comment alert. I want to thank the boys in sorted food for giving me a passion for food. It was only after watching a few videos that I realised that I wanted to work with food. I’m now 2 years into a chef apprenticeship and I’m loving it, thank you to all the dudes at sorted food

Jamie's "Oh, how the tables have turned in the copying debate." was so perfectly passive aggressive. I laughed.

Jamie: too many numbers will mess Barry up
Barry: mixes up his shapes

Imagine Ben making the instructions for IKEA furniture. "Make table. Done"

I need James to do the next Think Like A Chef, and be his best super judgey, super snarky, hard-to-please self

In a series called "Think Like a Chef" I think that Jamie should have won: despite the faux paz with the pepper and with the presentation, he did think like a chef (preheating oven from the start, listening to directions the first time, etc)

ben's face when they start making the filling is priceless, like he wanted to dump these bowls on their heads and yell START AGAIN

I still feel like if Ben wasn't holding Barry's hand so much and was more strict with the "you'll be told what to do once and you have to listen like a chef", Barry would've created something very different from a millefeuille

Ben: "Stay organised, tidy and clean."
Barry: *Has a break-down.*

I love how, as this channel has been around for so long, the normals have developed so much that these kinds of competitions have become possible.
Imagine doing something like this couple years back and it could've been nothing but a disaster.

If Jamie had a Netflix Series of him and his cooking, it would be called ‘Instant Regrets’.

Man, I didn't realise how much of a difference not being able to see each other would make. Most of the mistakes were made by only one of the two, and wouoldn't have if they saw the other one do it their way. This was great!

Jamie: "You said 'everything you need is in front of you'!" Yes, but he didn't say "you need everything in front of you", did he? 🤔

I feel Jamie should have won because he required less handholding. Yes, the end result matters, but if you are going to do it about 'thinking like a chef', and the one who needs constant handholding and repetitions is right there facing the chef to see his expressions and body language, that is a huge advantage for them. I am not surprised at all Barry won, especially given that Jamie instantly fell for the pepper trap. If anything, Jamie was the weaker normal here, since baking and such is far more up Barry's wheelhouse than his, and yet that's not where the chef helped out the most. In the future position the chef such that both battlers get equal exposure to him throughout.

They gave Barry only one hob. I bet he'll still leave it on.

I love how between them, it was nearly perfect. Jamie's had the right shape and Barry nailed the feathering
