If you break off your back braces and you have a poking wire that's painful, then you can slide the brackets off of the wire, trim the wire, and place wax on the area. Then schedule an appointment with your orthodontist to get the brackets repaired!

Yep that’s what my dad did for me in the 90s when we couldn’t get to the orthodontist right away. Took out his wire cutters. Instant relief - dad could fix anything - miss you 😢

My first orthodontist wanted to remove my braces about 6 months into my treatment because this kept happening, and on one occasion I pulled the whole wire out because I couldn’t cut off the bit that was sticking into my cheek. One day he said to me and my financially struggling single mother that he’d remove them at my next appointment if I did this again but got sick with something serious before that appointment could take place. The new female orthodontist and her assistant replaced the wire, tightened the braces and I went about my day; I remember me and my mum being nervous in the lobby that day thinking I would have crooked teeth because of an incomplete treatment, I guess gods fine with smiting the wicked so long as it doesn’t interfere with their destiny. The male orthodontist was an old man so I doubt he still had a meaningful destiny. I guess my destiny includes straight teeth. Life is fair

I remember this happening to me and the wire was practically impaling my cheeks. I did the best I could with wax until I could see my orthodontist. One of the worst experiences I've ever had

I did this too. It’s really the only option you’ll have when your bracket is moving around on the wire back and forth and the wire keeps poking your mouth, good common sense girly

I had braces when I was about 10 and I had this happen but all the way back in my mouth so it was so hard to reach. It happened on a Saturday so the orthodontist office was closed but my mom got in contact with the orthodontist and he drove to the closed office just to fix my braces for me, while his entire family waited in the car for him as they were on their way home from lunch. I wish all doctors had the heart that guy has
