USB PC to PC Direct?

Can you connect two PCs directly with USB3? Thunderbolt makes it easy, but life isn't great without it.

Laplink comes to mind. I have one of these cables but not used it in a long time. Quicker to use ethernet

I bought a tool/cables called 'The Tornado' back in the late 90's, it cost £20 at the time, its no where as fast as the solution shown but its handy when a file transfer is needed.

I actually own one of these and used it a few times in the early 2000s. Even at USB 2 speeds it was faster than the 100 mb ethernet port many devices had.

If your board has an OTG controller and you compiled your kernel to have USB gadget support, you will be able to connect them directly together without using any expensive adapters, and transfer either raw data through serial or make a network with it and mount NFS to transfer files ☝️🤓

I wonder - can you reconfigure it to do something other useful, like usb gadget mode? I'm thinking for ages about using my proper linux machine to send usb audio and video to my work-windows pc, pretending to be a UVC cam and some generic usb audio interface. End goal would be to use pulseaudio modules to clean up the audio of my mic instead of buying a hardware mixer..

I want to connect to USB devices together without using a computer. Is there a cable for that? Right now my two USB audio devices need to be connected to a computer to process the input and output data stream which adds latency to the audio.


I just want to connect to two devices together using some sort of host but not an actual computer.

The usb ethernet adapter you wave at the end looks just like the 2.5G adapter I have.

Still surprised you cant just use a double sided USB C cable to do this but oh well. Normaly you need to usb to ethernet adapters and an ethernet cable.

pretty sure a non custom usb a to usb a will fry both computers but thats a custom usb cord
