Something the author didn't mention is it requires a special USB cable that has a chip in the middle of it. 

It is called a USB-A to USB-A Data Transfer Cable.

Just for anyone watching this video, DO NOT do as this video instructs, they don't state that you must use a usb bridge cable. If you do not, you're usb ports will not work anymore as it will burn out the port because of an inadequate power supply. If you do not want to spend money on a bridge cable, you may resort to email, if it's too big, use usb flash drives, SD cards, or burn files to a disc, if you cannot figure that out, browse youtube, i'm sure you'll find something here with instruction

Put the two computer on the same LAN and get some free FTP client and server. The speed will be similar if you have a good router.

Most of these have firmware right in the cable device itself. Go to my computer and there should be a new drive or icon that appears. I have an Arvel link cable and it popped up no software needed.Clicked on it and it opened the dual window for file transfers

You can't connect a simple USB cable between 2 computers.

You need a special kit, it has a firmware control box in the middle of the cable and dedicated software on both machines, eg Laplink do it properly.

Plugging one outlet in your house to another would do nothing except disperse the power more evenly. 

Same with USB, plugging one computer to another would only either ground your 5V+ USB connection, or it would be really easy on the power supply and disperse the 5V+ connection. 

Either way, your motherboard is not fried
