It's that time of year again when you have to start thinking about blackouts. As we has have seen with hurricane Ida, it is very important to be prepared for mother nature. Blackouts (or power outages) are one of the most
common things when it comes to storms. You can have blackouts from, snow, ice, wind, fire, lighting and more.
The items I list are still readily available. With the exception of a generator, this list can be done on a pretty small budget. Most of these items you will need for a grid down or EMP event as well. I'm becoming a big fan of
solar chargers, you can get them fairly inexpensive just do your research. Please enjoy the video!

Also recommend, things to barter. Things that you don't need yourself, like alcohol and tobacco/ cigarettes, etc..

USB batteries, battery operated lamps & candles, and walkie talkies are also great for power outages/storms. Solar battery chargers are great too.

Solar security lights on your property are nice to have just in general not just in a grid down especially at points of ingress on to your property try to get the ones that have a timer and sensor that is amiable and or remote. Generators are great to have as long as you understand what your trying to power back up. Not all Generators will do your fridge and stove you have to look at watts and amperage to understand what your trying to power back up. Just do your own research. Also a Generator can be heard especially when the grid goes down and you don't need unwanted or uninvited "guests " at your home so consider some kind of muffler if the generator is gas powered to conceal that noise better. As well depending on where you live you may want to consider some light & noise discipline especially at night, fires and flashlights can be seen so do most of your cooking during the day and set security at night. 3-5 gallons of water per person day for an average military age male doing all the things that's cooking, food prep, bathing, drinking, clean - up. Use it wisely. Great vid NWP. keep batteries on hand but go solar as much as possible. I have a couple of the items you have on that table my friend.

For batteries, I use a combination of both rechargeable and regular.
For recharging I have a few Jacakery 500s and a 1000 and 3 100W solar panels. Food, water stocked up.
Had a storm knock out power for 36h a year ago and managed to keep essentials such as the fridge running without too much of an issue for the entire time by running it for an hour on the Jackery 1000 while connected to the solar panel, then leaving it off for an hour, then running it for an hour.

I love my Lucy light (also) I wish I had the USB Lucy light but it does good and it has a red sos light option on it 😁 I do have green sterno for inside and 2 survival tarps as well. One thing I do have...when I go thru a gallon bottle I am not going to refill with distiled water, I fill with tap water and keep on hand for my dishes and showers.

I bought the smallest size Jackery plus the folding solar panel for it so I could charge my phone and my Kindle multiple times when we boondock in the desert this winter. It takes the better part of a day to charge the Jackery using the Jackery solar panel. But this is what you have to do if there is no power outlet to plug into. I also have a 200 watt 2-cup rice cooker that will cook raw rice using the small Jackery. And the Jackery will easily power (one at a time) a radio, a music CD player and one of those miniature swamp cooler machines.

For regular stove top cooking inside my home when the local power grid is down and the gas supply to my gas cook top is down, I have two butane one-burner stoves and a supply of butane cylinders. The heat from the butane burners is adjustable so is not too hot for using my good, non-stick skillets and saucepans. I have used the butane stoves to cook bacon, hash brown potatoes and Denver omelets.

For cooking outdoors on my rocket stove I use cast iron cookware because its heat is too high to safely use my good, non-stick cookware. Before using a cast iron skillet or enameled cast iron pot on the rocket stove, I coat the pan bottom with soap suds so the soot and creosote will wash off later when I clean up.

In my opinion Lights and power are some of the most high value trade items. Great list. I could trade the neighbor a rechargable flashlight then charge him every time it needs filled up. Solar would be huge during any power outage. Awesome video

This is exactly why 5 years ago I had a whole house dual powered generator installed, it runs on natural gas and propane. Not cheap but it was the best money that I have ever spent. Have cranky radios, lanterns and a very large stock of both rechargeable and regular batteries, two batterie banks, rechargeable and batterie flash lights ect. Great information, thank you for sharing it's appreciated!!

Both gas and solar. You power stuff(freezer?) while charging the solar generator with gas generator and then switch it to the solar generator to stretch your fuel.

I have a hand crank light/radio/Evan can charge my phone off it . . I keap 160 bottle water in bottom of deep freezer and heavy blankets to wrap deep freezer ( lay down type) can keep items froze for 45 days the stand up I own gets emptied into the lay down it just holds froze veggies and pot pie burritos. Can power these off battery bank and we'll for up to 2 weeks 12 hours on 12 hours off
.my well runs off 110 only use it to fill my 8 linked 55 gallon drums. The well is for the lawn but can feed it to home water supply in emergency shut down city water close one valve open another. Then fill 4/ 35 gallon contractor lined cans hen fill water bob in upper bathroom (100 gallons) . Over 1, 200 gallons on hand not counting recycle fruit juice bottle for water ( 200 gallons there, 30 / 4 gallon water jugs , 100 cases bottle water 40 count cases, 50 recycle milk bottles for water, If grid is down cut sewer line and cap it.. my storm drain not part of sewer I can use it for human piss removal. Kitty litter and pooper scooper freezer zip lock bags human crap into contractor bags in 35 gallon can zip tie shut put aside . Plenty papper plates cups to save on water use and help stop illness spread . Just burn them
Now winter is a whole different challenge. As to what have on hand keap water unfroze and can or glass bottle food

Your car Is a generator….most modern cars can produce 100w continuous through the cigarette port. With one directly connected to the battery can get 1000-2000w with the right inverter.

Your car is a perfect micro environment with heat/ac, power (phones and stuff) so make sure your tank is always filled up as winter approaches

@NW Prepper What area of Northwest are you in? I am in Central Washington state, for example. I just found your channel and subscribed. Curious as to what State / area you are in, NOT City. just a general area.

Even on a cloudy day you still get enough solar rays. If you can still get a sunburn on a cloudy day; you can still use your panels.

I try to keep low denomination cash on hand (not a lot, mind you) rather than $100 bills to use in a situation like you are addressing. in this video. If something comes up that I need to sue a little cash, I have it available and exact change is appreciated at the store.
