Pixel 9 Pro Fold Review | Google vs Galaxy Z Fold 6

Reviewing Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold with a comparison vs Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6, to see which foldable phone is best for camera performance, gaming, battery life and beyond. As well as unboxing the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, here's my one week verdict after using it as my full time smartphone!

My favourite bendy blower in 2024 is probably still the OnePlus Open, especially the new Apex Edition. But the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a lot to offer including the usual AI guff (like the Samsung Z Fold 6), incredibly bright screens and its usual super-smart image processing. The camera hardware isn't as advanced as the regular Pixel 9 Pro, but you'll still capture slick, realistic photos any time of day. Meanwhile the Galaxy Z Fold 6 likes to boost those tones to really catch the eye.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold can handle some light gaming but does heat up quickly, while Samsung's foldable phone stays cool under pressure. But when it comes to battery life, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the winner here. Even if that charging speed is ridiculously slow.

I like the multi-tasking split-screen experience on both foldable smartphones here. That said, Google's handset is sometimes a bit glitchy, which will hopefully be sorted in an Android update soon.

I just brought the original pixel fold. I'm really happy with it. I figured I'll wait 24 months on contract then upgrade to the pro fold 9. Keeping costs down.

WTF is going on with costs is the UK. The GBP is horrible. It would cost $3400AUD with the exchange rate. Retail is $2699 here in Oz. Plus deal for $800 off from a major Telco, equaling $1899! Insanity in the UK

desktop mode makes the fold 6 way more worth it for the money, can be phone, ereader, tablet, laptop (with a lapdock), desktop (with a monitor), spatial computer (with ar glasses), game console (with tv), handheld game console (with kishi etc)

13:43 its strange that the split battery actually charges slower in the fold than the pro. like, usually companies put split batteries in to increase the wattage!

The Fold 9 will charge with the Pixel Stand (lst and 2nd gen). All you need to do is to raise the phone by the thickness of a standard pencil. I used two standard size emery boards (fingernail files), cut them in half and trimmed them to the width of the stand, stuck them together and they worked perfectly. The Stand is slippery and the emery boards make the phone secure and should cause no marks on the phone/case unless sawed back and forth (why?) There's no problem charging in landscape mode, just slide along until it charges - no props needed. A bit Heath Robinson but it works.
