UNRESPONSIVE After Choking DO THIS

When someone is choking and becomes unresponsive, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) first assess the person's responsiveness and breathing.

We then begin CPR, focusing on chest compressions, and check the mouth periodically for the obstructing object.

EMS will use airway management techniques, like a bag-valve mask or suction, to clear the airway and support ventilations.

Be great,

When I took a CPR class, I was told that if the choker says no to help, just wait until the pass out, then start compressions.

My question is…. They say witness CPR connect the AED and analyze….. but with a choking victim who goes unresponsive they say start compressions……

Can someone explain?!

They go into respiratory arrest, their heart may still be beating after they’re unresponsive (from experience) but yes try clear the obstruction using magill forceps if unsuccessful begin chest compressions, the increased intrathroracic pressure will hopefully dislodge and clear the airways if not its crocothyroidotomy! You’re a legend, thanks so much for your content, you helped me so much over the years! Much love from NZ
