I’m so glad you’re talking about this! Companies like shein, wish, and especially temu are awful, but they’re successful because the cost of living crisis is making people have to cut back on quality to survive. Not to mention how bad fast fashion is for the environment!

They steal a lot of artwork. I’m a licensed artist with a fantasy author. I’ve seen loads of other artists work on their adverts. We keep reporting them but it’s disgusting that they can effectively steal officially licensed merch. Especially from small businesses just trying to get by 😫

i ordered from Temu once before I knew very much about them, so many things were either free or less than £3. Almost everything was such terrible quality it went straight in the bin, which hurt my heart because of all the unnecessary plastic waste and travel miles.
Don't buy their crap. It's unethical and a waste of money anyway

Another kicker; When these big companies plant millions of trees they often clear-cut land to plant them and said trees are essentially ignored immediately afterwards and most of them die.

Also that Temu jingle.. it instantly activates the throat punch sector of my brain.

Another idea for a video could be about Shein stealing clothing ideas from designers to make junky versions of them. They're getting sued by so many people including Jessica Louise Clothing for theft.

My friend bought some items from Temu a while back and I was so shocked. I didn’t realize people actually bought stuff from these places, especially since she has the plenty of money to buy actual quality ethically sourced products. It made me feel really uncomfortable and I didn’t know what to say to her. Perhaps she doesn’t know how unethical Temu and Shein are, but I can’t fathom how your look at items of those prices and not at least get an idea that they might be made unethically. I don’t even like buying clothes at most stores in traditional malls, and I try to thrift or buy ethically made investment pieces only. I still buy fast fashion occasionally in a pinch, but I always have the goal of minimizing consumption.

Thanks for making this video. I've been getting so many Temu ads on Youtube, it's insane (their ad literally played before this video). I was never tempted to shop there because I rightly assumed they sold knock-off crap for really cheap prices but I didn't know any of the other stuff and just how sinister it really is.

I'm not discrediting this, because Temu is especially egregious in their shady business practices, but so many of these talking points can be applied to most big corporations. Temu is using forced labor from somewhere with a genocide going on? That's how our phones work. Without the forced labor of the people in Congo, the lithium powering our phones would not be mined and we would have no phones.

The phrase "not ethical consumption under capitalism" exists for a reason. That's not to say you shouldn't care because everything has a negative effect. Don't shop fast fashion if you can afford not to. I'm just saying large corporations based in China and stealing your data aren't the big bad enemy. Everyone is stealing your data. The YouTube algorithm isn't magic, it's data.

Just be wary about fear mongering. Yes, Temu is bad. They are extremely bad and shady. But they are not a unique evil, they came to exist just as many before them did: through capitalism.
