The months thing ends at 2, I'm glad to see it's universal 😂

As a nurse, months makes so much sense, I remember when I was studying the development stages of a child and there is so much change between each month that you can write an entire book about each one

Yeah but to most non-family members/close friends it doesn’t really matter to specify the developmental stages within the first two years. It can be added if needed in the conversation. In general it doesn’t matter to the other person if your child is 1, 1.5, or 1.75 years old. It seems like it’s more important for the parent to specify in months. After a 1.5 it seems a bit excessive to use months.

It’s the moms that say “my little 324 month old!!”

Edit: guys this is purely exaggeration I do not hate moms and this is not a real issue it’s a joke 😀

What we mean is: don’t say 14 months but one year and two months. Don’t say 40 months but 3 years and 4 months

Why don't parents say for example "a year and 3 months"?

Mom of 2 here.
I am using:
1 week old - 11 weeks old
3 months
3½ months
4 months
4½ months
...
1 year old
1 year & 1 month
1 year & 2 months
...
2 years old
2 ½ years
3 years
3½ years
...
Hate it when people only count in weeks until the babys are one year or older xD

I work in a class full of one year olds and yes, absolutely. We count them all in months because the difference between our “just turned one” and our “going up to the toddler room” babies are very very different.

Being 13 months and 23 months is a huge difference yes but saying she just turned one and she turns two next months is just, well easier. Don't make the poor person you're talking to start counting - I promise you they're not THAT interested in exact age. Just being polite 😂 There's no good reason for responding with months after they've turned one.

I say the months until they're 2 years old. They're still changing a lot from 12 months until 24 months.

100%. I didn't understand it before i was a dad but now that I have 2, saying a kid is a year old means nothing haha

The thing is, these milestones are only important to the childs parent and their doctor.
If you're generally referring to your childs age "one and 2 months" or even just "one" is sufficient.

The general rule I’ve always followed was “days until 2 weeks, weeks until 2 months, and months until 2 years”

Ok, but for most of us it doesn’t make sense anyway?
I mean, 17 moth old or 1 year old, I still won’t be capable to understand if your baby’s already walk and talk or just crawl until I actually see it.
