10 tips on how to teach yourself anything 📚

I offer organisation + productivity coaching/consulting. If you're interested, you can schedule your first session here:

There’s this quote by Howard Gardner: "You learn at your best when you have something you care about and can get pleasure in being engaged in."

This is basically *the principle* for anyone engaged in a self-learning routine. Having a lack of interest in certain topics may be less deterrent for you if you are studying in some kind of institution - despite the lack of engagement in your classes, you end up studying because you need to pass in order to get your diploma.

When you’re self-studying, maybe there isn’t any kind of diploma or grade waiting for you at the end of the line - especially if you’re studying for entertainment and not because you’re going to self-apply for some kind of exam or test.

8. Build a knowledge database (to document your progress and info)
9. Build strong foundation (review your basics regularly )
10. Don't hesitate to go long term ( always find harder and new topics to learn, be progressive )

Here's something I found really helpful not only for self directed learning, but for habit consistency in general.

Sometimes you run out of motivation and you don't want to learn anything. You need to prepare for those times. Find a topic or a task that's so easy (either because it's fun or effortless) that you can do for the time you don't feel like it so that you don't break your streak.
I found that one from the writer of Atomic Habits (can't remember his name).

Anyway, solid tips. Thank you for the video!

figuring out your learning style is probably the most underrated skillset we overlooked. took me decades to finally realize what my learning style is and now I am able to retain information alot more and excel at my career in ways i never thought would be possible. not everyone can be textbook learners. keep experiment even if it takes you decades. your brain will thank you down the road.

I love this. It’s 100% true. We have the ability to learn anything we want. We have so much potential and the human mind is amazing. I’m building out a van to live in and I had never used a saw or power drill just a couple months ago. And now I’m building my walls and installing a shower in my van floor. I would always joke at myself and say I’m not a handy person but really I just never set out to learn how to be. Love the video! Thank you for sharing!

Having a system like a calendar is quite useful to keep you organized. I recommend it to add time blocking, due dates, and tasks

These are great tips. In addition to them, I can say
If you are going to college go for a degree that you are interested in. How would you know you are interested? It's like a mystery that you just can't shake until you solve it all the way. Usually this question is simple...."why?"
Why what? You tell me.
Have a goal
Draw a path
Walk that path
When times get dark and hard, and they will, remember your reason and shine the light from within.
Chao.
