Did this, but the app talked to me at every exit along the new route I selected, wanting me to get off the new route I selected and go back to the original route from which I deviated...annoying.

Mine only shows one route and doesn't allow you to choose the road you'd rather take

This video is incomplete. You have to drop a pin on starting point or destination(if it is not a famous place) if you want to go on an alternative route. After dropping pin, copy the latitude longitude (example 13.582816375303942, 73.37597587583207) and paste in the starting point or destination. :-)

Thats only if they have grey routs and they may be incorrect as well !! So infact Google maps is rubbish !!
