Music makes you feel but it takes away your ability to think. If you constantly have music playing, especially with headphones, you cant process or pick up threads of thoughts. Its basically pressing pause on your mind so you arent making any mental progress.
People think that they have to have music playing constantly because they believe having thoughts means you are boored.

I really needed this video, I am addicted to it. Like ALOT. It really changes me, on the most worst way ever. I feel sad, happy, mad, aggressive, etc when i listen to music. It depends on the music I listen to. It takes alot of my time. The moment I take of my headphones the emotion goes away, its just a temporary pleasure. I really want to stop but it just became my addiction. All advices and tips are welcome.

Now, I'm coming from a totally different place, but hear me out, I'm a muslim and music is impermissible in Islam, being practising prevents me from listening to it, scholars in Islam have opinions on how it 'music' has enough power to penetrate the heart therefore shaping the thought process (it's a spiritual thing you know 😅) I left listening to it for 5 years, but now I unfortunately returned to it in order to mediate my emotions, but right now I'm at point where I've realised that music really does take control of your mind, your thought process DOES deplete, and for a person who's trying to have a sharp intellect and conscience, it's important to watch out for stuff like that, and the worst part is that sadly 'music is EVERYWHERE' it's so hard to avoid, but props to you man for realising the harms and working upon that, it takes a strong emotional IQ to figure out something like that, if I see it from your perspective.

Music manipulates your emotions and sends you up and down. It's very destabilising.

I honestly hate music now. I'm completely annoyed with it. I want my mind to be clear and peaceful. Music just makes me constantly daydream. But when I drive I'll have very soft flute indian music playing. It brings me peace. Doesn't annoy me or whatever. Keeps me in the present moment. That's it.

I am daydreaming a lot while hearing music its like fullfilling my dreams in a void and feeling the pleasure but the reality is not getting any benefit so I decided to stop hearing music.

I’m going to stop listening to music because it makes me feel lazy and I’m not aware of my surroundings; I tend to forget simple concepts of tasks.

I'm agree with you,
Music keeps our mind in sleeping stage,
It's time to be awake..

I used to listen to music a good amount, like at least an hour and a half each day after school because I believed it was good for me to use it for relaxation and to maybe boost my creativity.
But eventually, I realized it was severely harming my productivity. The music I listened to was so overstimulating that it made me unable to feel boredom, making me unmotivated to do anything because I had no reason to if I couldn't get bored even by just sitting around and doing nothing. While learning coding, I would often have music to stimulate me, masking the pain I felt from learning as well as distracting me from really giving coding my all. This wasted a lot of time which I regret.
So yeah I decided to stop listening to music completely. Music is very addictive and TBH, I would group it to the same level of productivity as video games. Treat music like video games: minimize the time you spend listening to music, realize it can be just as distracting as video games, realize you should only listen to music on break time to relax or whatever. Just my opinion.
Since quitting, my productivity has shot up dramatically since I'm now more focused on what I'm passionate in

I will say however that music is really helpful for those rare times when I'm deeply sad (happens like twice a year for me, one or two days each time) because on those days of extreme sadness, I have no energy and no motivation to do anything, even the things I have a passion in, so music is able to fill that gap on those days

Music constantly interrups a thought-train. Without music I get more focused and can have more complex thoughts. Then again with music you can shortcut the regular emotional process, to quickly get all kinds of feelings.. so it really depends on what you want to do at a given moment.

I used to listen to music to avoid reality
I had to quit and finally deal with it
I haven't stopped listening to music but I'm reducing it A LOT

Thanks! It is pleasant to know not only me thinking that way.
Recently on my dopamine detox I realized that I'm actually music addicted. Now I'm struggling to concentrate on my study without music, it feels even stronger for me than a sugar addiction (maybe because I personally listened to addictive kind of music which gave me chills if I were in a proper mood). And google tells me there's no real music addiction. I doub it!
P.S. Now just listening to wind blowing recordings to isolate myself from sound distractions in my area. Really helpful, also to fall asleep.

I've always liked music... there are so many good stuff out there. And honestly, i enjoy it. It has the feel good factor. But, lately I feel it restricts me. The reason for using my phone is music- i listen to it while reading, revising, eating, before bed and basically everyday. I also have all sorts of earphones, earpods and gadgets to enjoy my experience with music. And now, i want to get away from it, surely its good stuff, but its nit worth it when i think about my phone addiction, and my procrastination. I feel my brain has stopped working. And it makes sense. I kinda need to get away from music for some time now.

I’m same . Was obsessed with music, for years and constantly. Now I just can’t listen to it and I thought am I depressed? But it just tends to make me feel nauseous at times and I don’t know why . I used to play instruments too but I can’t, I get stressed at the noise . I still don’t understand why this has happened . But I’m trying to accept it more
