One thing to note for the do it your selfer... please use brass chisel or you can cause a fire. Metal on metal sparking on top of gas is probably a bad idea

Dear Scotty, THANK YOU for another great mechanic training video. My great uncle Ferdinand Javier Venezuela the III once showed me how to drop the gas tank ...his fuel pump was much different though. It was inside several white bags that he just dropped in there. He asked me if I wanted these fuel pumps in my 81 slammed Lincoln Continental and I say to him "No Way Jose", my car is all original equipment!

yes, pressure test it first AFTER changing the fuel filter, could be a weak pump

@Compwhiz128 fuel filters keep crud out of the carb or fuel injectors. Most cars have the big fuel filters AFTER the fuel pump, and only a tiny screen before the pump. Scotty

You don't always have to take the fuel tank off. Sometimes there is a cover under the back seat, and you can pull it out and replace it that way. Much easier.

@rogersvids Na, it could be tons of stuff. If the pump is wearing out, generally you will lose top end speed due to lack of pressure. cold starting stresses the entire fuel and ignition system, and minor glitches in anything can cause a first time longer crank. Scotty

@dangerline95 they just bolt or snap off with special tools if they have internal clips. BUT, most modern cars have em inside the gas tank, requiring removal of the tank, so they rarely get changed.

I had my cars tank changed cause it had to much rust on it. THE IDIOTS at the shop used LIQUID Gaskets so my fuel pump got CLOGGED and my car stopped.... a 1 hour trip took me 10 hours car stopped and goes for 5 This was the first time i went to a mechanic to have something fixed on my car, and it will be the last time... from now on i watch Scotty's movies and do things myself! THX Scotty!

it could be the security system, that shuts off the fuel injection from working. Have a guy like me analyze that first, it requires a dealer level scan tool to figure that one out

@bumpyfruck yea, but I've never had one blow up on me yet, as I work outside with a big fan, and the vapors don't collect to blow up. If you work inside, yes.

Great video & Mustang! I wonder when Ford started putting the 5.0L back in it? Another tip I was told to tell if your fuel pump is bad is to take the gas cap off, put the key to run, then put your ear in the gas filler line. Also I heard that b/c of recent high gas prices more people are running out of gas & that's what causes the fuel pump to fail b/c gas acts like a lube for the pump.

thanks scotty! even better that i have found with our ford is that the ring is accessable from the boot under the carpet covered by a metal plate glued and sealed by screws.. so thank god dont have to lower the tank at all.. you have helped so much. so a HUGE thanks from Australia

Scotty I love your vids you've helped me a great deal. I just did a fuel pump on a 95 Chevy Blazer...didnt seem to hard but the feed line twisted n broke so had to buy whole new fuel sending assembly. I never went to school for mechanic but I've had some experience and some jobs thanks to you I know most repairs can be done thanks for the vids!!
