She manages to see Reese as more than a troublemaker. She doesn't make Malcolm feel weird about being super intelligent. She doesn't spoil Dewey or Jamie and she doesn't let them feel ignored.

It's amazing how similar they all are to Lois in some way. Francis has the personality/anger, Malcolm has the mind, Reese the impulse for violence, Dewey the liking of having authority. Now you mix Hal's immature attitude and you get this.
